Because it does not possess the complete characteristics of the other three (Buddha family, Vajra family, Ratna family). Moreover, the ritual of the Eight Tathagatas belongs to the ritual of the Tathagata family. The ritual of the Secret Lord (Vajrapani) belongs to the Vajra family. So, what is the empowerment in this (ritual) like? In general, any mandala of the Tathagata family, Especially, just by obtaining the empowerment of the Shakyamuni Buddha mandala, one can become the master of all three tantras of Kriya, Charya, and Yoga, as stated in the 'Secret General Tantra'. Those who claim to perform the empowerment and subsequent permission of the Eight Tathagatas or the King of Medicine (Bhaisajyaguru), it is not apparent that they have a source of pure lineage, and in particular, Om Bhaisajye (藏文:བྷེ་ཥ་ཛྱེ,梵文天城体: भैषज्ये,梵文罗马拟音:bhaiṣajye,汉语字面意思:medicine) this dharani, is not said in this sutra to be the root dharani of the King of Medicine. Even if it is the intention of the ritual text, it should appear in the chapter of Bhaisajyaguru, but it does not actually appear. It is also not the intention of the commentator. Some people have copied the content of the Bhaisajyaguru mantra from other dharani sutras. Therefore, the dharani for bathing by reciting the dharani is the dharani called 'Vaiḍūrya Light'. If there is a lineage practice of the King of Medicine, then the dharani is that, and there is no other. So, what is the reason why this ritual is mainly known for Bhaisajyaguru? Explaining its importance is as follows: Arya Kṣemamkara (Avalokiteśvara) extensively explained to Ananda the unique offering ritual of Bhaisajyaguru alone. How was it explained? Offer seven images of the King of Medicine himself, and in front of each image, offer no less than seven butter lamps and seven five-colored banners. In terms of time, close the retreat for seven weeks continuously, and in terms of conduct, take the vows of Uposatha (observance) for seven weeks. In terms of ritual, recite the name of the King of Medicine seven times three times a day and three times a night and prostrate, mainly performing the seven-branch offering seven times, and reciting his unique twelve vows seven times, the benefit is that one can be freed from serious illness and that harm from enemy armies and constellations will not occur. The summary of all that has been said is that there are three rituals in this text: The ritual based on the sutra itself, and the ritual based solely on the mantra. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

as well as the common ritual in its usual form. The first case refers to the empowerment of all eight Tathāgatas (Those Who Have Thus Come), while the uncommon ritual refers to the ritual of worshiping the Medicine King (Bhaiṣajya-rāja, King of Medicine) alone. The difference between the two is that Mañjuśrī (Gentle Glory) requested Śākyamuni (Sage of the Śākya Clan) to teach the ritual of worshiping all seven Tathāgatas, and the Buddha granted it. Without any discussion, Ārya-vimokṣa (Noble Liberation) directly explained the uncommon ritual of worshiping the Medicine King. He asked the Buddha, 'How is the uncommon ritual of worshiping the Medicine King performed?' and it was recounted by Ānanda (Bliss). The second case is also divided into two: one is about the empowerment of all eight Tathāgatas, and the other is about the empowerment of Vajrapāṇi (Vajra in Hand) alone. There are five cases in total. If further divided, the first six Tathāgatas can also be paired with their respective uncommon rituals, resulting in eleven cases. The ritual of worshiping Śākyamuni cannot be classified as a single uncommon ritual, as it universally applies to all seven Tathāgatas, which is to clarify its necessity. Even if an uncommon ritual for Śākyamuni arises, it will not go beyond the scope of the first mantra. The Order of How to Combine with the Sutras Third, regarding the order of how to combine with the sutras, the 'Eight Hundred Sutras,' which detail the special features of the past aspirations of the seven Tathāgatas, will be explained through three aspects: The meaning of the summary, the meaning of the necessity, and the meaning of the words. First, who asked? To whom was it asked? Why was it asked? What is the subject matter of the Dharma being asked? First, it is divided into two: asking through words, and knowing that they have doubts even though they have not said much. The first is Mañjuśrī, Vimokṣa, Vajrapāṇi, the Twelve Yakṣa Generals (Yakṣa-senāpati-dvādaśa, Twelve Yaksha Commanders), the Four Great Kings (Caturmahārāja, Four Great Kings), and Ānanda. The second case is that some of the deities with lesser wisdom who were gathered there wondered: 'How is it that merely reciting the names of the Buddhas residing beyond the Buddha-fields as numerous as the sands of the Ganges can produce such great benefits?' Second, it is divided into directly answering the questions asked, and answering after knowing their doubts. The first case is when Mañjuśrī asked Śākya King Buddha about the names of the seven Tathāgatas, their Buddha-fields, and the circumstances of their initial generation of Bodhicitta. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
