Drawing deities on *tsa ka li* (Tibetan: ཙ་ཀ་ལི་, Sanskrit: cakra, wheel) with faces turned outwards, resembling the tiers of a stupa. Although this practice lacks pure ritual support, it appears beautiful to ordinary people, and is therefore very popular in the Nyang (Tibetan: ཉང་, place name) and Tsang (Tibetan: གཙང་, place name) regions. It is said that this also originated from the meditative experiences of meditators in Nyangto (Tibetan: ཉང་སྟོད་, place name). Refutation of this practice: Regarding this practice known as the Medicine Buddha Hall, it is necessary to examine whether it is good or bad. If it is merely the meditative experience of ordinary people, that would be fine, but it is also possible that it has been blessed by demons. The words of the Bhagavan, whether Sutra or Tantra, and the commentaries on them, do not mention such a mandala, so it should be refuted. Then, why should it be refuted? If there is no temple as the basis, and it is merely an arrangement of deities, that would be acceptable. However, for a complete mandala of the dependent and the depended, this is not acceptable. Even if your arrangement of the dependent and the depended has a temple and a mandala, but because there is no main deity, leaving it empty, this practice is ignorant. If you think that even without the main deity, placing the scriptures on top can be the main deity, even if you think so, it is unreasonable. Because the retinue deities of the main deity are facing away from the main deity, this harms all the connections between the inner and outer. Therefore, the people of Tibet will rebel against the king, etc., and this custom has become popular since then, so this custom should be abandoned. Then, should we also abandon drawing deities on the outside of the stupa? Although it is not mentioned to draw deities on the outside of the stupa, even if you want to draw, it is not for constructing a mandala, so there is no contradiction. Because drawing in that way is only for accumulating merit. Therefore, the method of offering to the Medicine Buddha should follow the ritual of the general mandala of the Action Tantra (Tibetan: བྱ་རྒྱུད, Sanskrit: Kriyātantra) as described by Shantarakshita (Tibetan: ཞི་བ་འཚོ, Sanskrit: Śāntarakṣita), which will bring auspiciousness. Because that ritual has no doctrinal faults and is a standard ritual. In this treatise, some who are not proficient in Buddhist studies will say: 'Then, the mandala is also unreasonable, because if the mandala is laid on the wall, some deities will be head down, and some will be sideways; if it is laid on the ground, the deities will be lying on their backs, and the retinue will be showing their buttocks to the main deity.' Also, wearing the crowns of the five Buddhas on the head is also unreasonable. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some argue, 'If worn in that way, the five families will turn their backs on each other.' Regarding the first issue, there is no fault. Whether the mandala is drawn separately or laid out on the ground, when making the aspiration, the main deity's head faces upwards, and the retinue all face the main deity. The spire of the palace points upwards, and it should be known that outside of these, the protective wheel appears from top to bottom, in all four directions and four intermediate directions without gaps, so that one can be liberated from that fault. Regarding the second issue, there is also no fault. Because this treatise has already explained that without the structure of a mandala, there is no contradiction in the postures of the various deities, such as turning their backs on each other. Moreover, wearing a crown commonly occurs in most Sambhogakaya (enjoyment body) Buddhas. Furthermore, it is heard that some hypocrites, instead of performing rituals such as the post-mortem rituals mentioned in the *Purification of the Lower Realms Tantra*, obtain a large amount of offerings by burning the nameplates of the deceased. This is indeed a very shameful act. The *Ratnakuta Sutra* states that upon seeing the fault of consuming offerings, five hundred monks offered their vows in order to prevent offerings from arising. The Fully Enlightened Teacher praised this, saying, 'Excellent.' Even if one possesses pure vows, if one does not diligently engage in reading, hearing, thinking, and practicing meditative concentration, but consumes offerings and the possessions of the deceased, it is more excellent to offer one's vows, abandon offerings and the possessions of the deceased, and live as an ordinary person. Moreover, in the teachings of the Vinaya and the commentaries on the treatises, it is said: 'The non-learner uses it as his own, the learner uses what is given, those with meditation and recitation, use it with permission without fault, the rest are like thieves using debt.' For a non-learning noble one, when offerings are made, there is no fault in using them as if they were his own. For learning noble ones, it is like using what is given to oneself, and there is no fault. For ordinary beings, if they possess any of meditation, recitation, hearing, or thinking, then using the offerings is with permission and without fault. But the remaining ordinary beings who are defeated by laziness use the offerings as if they were incurring debt. Just as it is said in the Vinaya, great beings of the past have also said: 'Except for the yogi of emptiness, I have no right to consume offerings.'
