To be liberated from suffering, making aspirations for countless eons is also reasonable. Regarding the vows of the Three Vehicles, explaining the vows as three, and obstacles to offerings to the Dharma, are like the babblings of children. The three vows refer to the vows of the Three Vehicles, or the three ways of practicing the Mahayana. One should not make offerings to the sacred scriptures with offerings, food, music, etc., but with incense, perfume, etc. Because in the chapter of Manjushri it says that after this sutra is written into a book, it should be honored with flowers, incense, garlands, perfume, umbrellas, and banners. Saying 'should not' is wrong, because nowhere are the vows of the Shravakas, Pratyekabuddhas, and Bodhisattvas said to be three vows, and the three ways of practicing the Mahayana are not vows. If it is not appropriate to make offerings to the Dharma in any way other than that indicated in the scriptures, then it would also not be appropriate to make offerings with cushions, clothes, belts, and tents. Second, correcting the errors in the ritual: 'Destroying the palace that shows the deities facing outwards, purifying with incense, meditating with the mantra of emptiness, recollection, bathing, etc., are all deities of foolish self-made rituals.' Saying this is wrong, because one should not destroy the palace that shows the deities facing outwards, because the deities of the mandala should not look outwards, and this adopts the customs of the Bon religion. Considering that this method is unreasonable, Kunkhyen Sonam Senge's 'Supplement to the Three Vows' also says: 'The palace called the Medicine Buddha, the deities of the mandala, are painted facing outwards, like the steps of a stupa. It looks beautiful, but it is popular in Nyangshab and Tsang. It is said that this is also due to the hallucinations of Nyangto Gomchen. If the hallucinations are not caused by demons, it is okay, but in the pure sutras, vinayas, and shastras, there is no mention of such a mandala. Therefore, it is necessary to examine what will happen. If there is no palace as a support, but only the arrangement of deities, that is okay, but there is no main deity in this way. Leaving the house empty is inauspicious. If you think that placing the scripture itself on top is the main deity, then in that case, the deities surrounding the main deity turn their backs to the main deity, which is harmful to both internal and external dependent origination. The rebellion of the Tibetan people against the king, etc., also began to flourish from that time, so it should be abandoned.' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding drawing deities such as the Yidam (རྟེན་,support), although there are no explicit rules, if one does so, as long as it is not within the framework of a mandala, there is no conflict in accumulating merit. Śāntarakṣita (ཞི་བ་འཚོས།) said that this ritual is in accordance with the general mandala of Kriyātantra (བྱ་རྒྱུད།), and if practiced, it will surely bring auspiciousness. This is his teaching. Furthermore, in the writings of the omniscient (ཀུན་མཁྱེན་ཆེན་པོ།, सर्वज्ञ,Sarvajña) master, immediately following the aforementioned verse, in a manner that extends from the former, it is written: Some people do not perform the rituals as described in the 'Purification of the Lower Realms Tantra' (Ngan song sbyong rgyud), but instead burn the nameplates of the deceased to obtain large amounts of offerings. In the 'Heap of Jewels Sutra' (Dkon mchog brtsegs pa'i mdo sde), the Buddha saw the fault of consuming offerings and therefore offered vows to five monks, which the Buddha praised. Furthermore, it is recorded in the treatises of the Vinaya (འདུལ་བ།): 'One who has not studied should not enjoy the possessions of the patron, but one who has studied may enjoy them.' If one is proficient in meditation and recitation, there is no fault in enjoying the followings (referring to offerings for the deceased). The remaining food is eaten by insects, and the one who enjoys it is like bearing a debt.' Therefore, many great beings of the past, apart from digesting food with emptiness, I have never seen them enjoy offerings.' Remembering these words, if you want to enjoy offerings, you must have pure discipline and diligently engage in meditation and recitation. In particular, if you want to perform transference for the deceased, you must perform the rituals as described in the 'Purification of the Lower Realms Tantra' and other scriptures, as taught by the perfectly enlightened one. Therefore, be especially careful about this. The deities in the mandala, such as Brahmā (ཚངས་པ།), Īśvara (དབང་།), the twelve Yakshas (གནོད་སྦྱིན་བཅུ་གཉིས།), and the Four Great Kings (རྒྱལ་ཆེན་རྣམས།), are all manifestations of the Buddha in worldly forms, so one can prostrate, make offerings, and take refuge. Śāntarakṣita said that even if one does not prostrate, make offerings, and take refuge in the retinue of seven hundred thousand, it will not hinder the accomplishment of activities. Nowadays, some people do not understand the difference, and even if they draw worldly deities in the mandala, they still regard them as worldly deities, which has been forbidden before. Some people even prostrate and take refuge in the seven hundred thousand retinues. Śāntarakṣita believes that this would harm the precepts of refuge, because most of the seven hundred thousand retinues are deities with worldly tendencies. In order to subdue them, the Buddha manifested in forms similar to them. The purpose of the Buddha manifesting in worldly forms is for this reason, and this also applies to other situations. The meaning of these words, if explained a little, are exquisite words that are worthy of being cherished in the hearts of those who are intelligent and discerning. For example, some people draw mandalas in places called 'Medicine Buddha Palaces'. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
