From the Garland of Jataka Tales of Bodhisattvas, the thirteenth chapter is the Jataka of the Intoxicated Woman. Thus, the Well-Gone One crossed to the other shore, when he became a great leader, even when he was very old, he complied with the requests of those who were meaningful. To take care of them, he entered the great ocean. Then, after a while, he became suspicious due to bad omens. Rows of knives, groups of lights, rows of fire, rows of kusha grass, rows of reeds, and the depths of the ocean appeared. The lord of death was approaching. All the merchants were confused, and because they were very afraid of death, they prayed to their own gods and to the leader. The leader, who was the best of the wise, prostrated and prayed to the victorious ones of the ten directions and their sons, and spoke his own words of truth as follows: 'Since I have been conscious, I do not remember killing any living beings. By these words of truth, may the ship return safely!' As soon as he said this, the ship became as he wished, filled with many precious things, and returned to his own country. From the Garland of Jataka Tales of Bodhisattvas, the fourteenth chapter is the Jataka of the Well-Gone One Crossing to the Other Shore. Like a lotus lake that is suitable, with various flowers shining brightly, and various water birds gathering, there he became the king of fish. At that time, by the merit of that, all the fish increased, and with joy and love, they obtained happiness for a long time. Then, after a while, due to the power of those with little merit, the rain stopped, and the lake mostly dried up. To relieve the suffering of those fish who were about to be destroyed, the king thought: 'I have not intentionally killed any living beings, by this truth, may the gods send down rain!' As soon as he said this, abundant rain fell. At that time, Indra came, and with joy and satisfaction, he made offerings. The lake was completely filled, and the fish moved about happily, the power of great merit, that word of truth is amazing! From the Garland of Jataka Tales of Bodhisattvas, the fifteenth chapter is the Jataka of the Fish. The sixteenth to the twentieth chapters are: the Jataka of the Firebird Chick, the Jataka of the Merchant. The great Bodhisattva, in a quiet and pleasant forest, became a firebird chick, with sinful thoughts. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What should I abandon? In my childhood, I relied on grass and grains for sustenance. My wings were not fully developed, so I did not have the power to fly. My companions fed on other creatures, and my wings quickly grew. At that time, the wind was fierce, and the forest fire was extremely terrible. Accompanied by thunder, the valley roared, and thick smoke billowed, creating darkness. The fire, burning like the fire at the end of an eon, approached the nest. Birds and wild animals, as well as the young of my companions, all flew away. At that time, the Bodhisattva spoke these words of truth to the fire: 'Because they fear you, my parents have also fled. My wings are not fully developed, and I have no ability to escape. Fire, you should retreat from here.' As soon as he spoke, the raging fire immediately subsided. Such words of truth are truly amazing! The Sixteenth Chapter: The Jataka of the Burnt Bird Chick, from 'A Garland of Stories of the Bodhisattva's Enlightenment'. When he became Śakra (释提桓因,帝释天), radiant with merit, he observed all the cities and saw people indulging in reckless drinking. Seeing that a king named Kun-gyi-dza-wo (ཀུན་གྱི་མཛའ་བོ།, 一切友) was also indulging in recklessness, Śakra (释提桓因,帝释天) manifested in order to subdue them. He manifested as the form of Brahma (ཚངས་པ།, 梵天), radiant with golden color, holding a liquor bottle in his hand, and asked, 'Who wants to buy this? This is not milk or nectar, but liquor that impairs this life and the next, and causes suffering.' He explained the various faults of liquor, and the king and his entourage were convinced and gave up drinking. Then, Śakra (释提桓因,帝释天) revealed his true form, did not accept grand offerings, but was pleased that they had given up intoxicants, and returned to his own abode. The Seventeenth Chapter: The Jataka of the Pot, from 'A Garland of Stories of the Bodhisattva's Enlightenment'. When he became a wealthy member of the royal family, he was respected by all, including other members of the royal family, monks, and Brahmins. He was proficient in all knowledge and possessed excellent artistic talents. However, after the death of his parents, he gave away most of his wealth in charity. Seeing the faults of household life, he became a renunciate, and in order to accomplish the great benefit of the future life, he went to a place of asceticism. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
