In the teaching of the benefits of liberation, due to extreme faith, the eating of meat was completely abandoned. The hundred princes imprisoned in the prison were also released and attained happiness. The liberation of that great Bodhisattva is truly amazing! In the Garland of Jataka Tales of Bodhisattvas, the thirty-first chapter is the 'Birth Story of Prince Moon'. Many small kingdoms came to pay homage, and the king's son, famous for his greatness, gradually passed away, so he began to seek ways to protect his descendants. Birth ceremonies and so on were held, and he was placed in an iron house. Due to the service of the great king, an exceptionally outstanding ruler appeared. Then, for the sake of a spectacle festival, he rode in a beautiful chariot decorated with jewels, and went with the army. He saw the perfect and prosperous scenery, and regarded them as clouds in the sky, lightning, and bubbles in the water. Then he returned to the palace and reported to his father: 'I am afraid of the Lord of Death, and if it is not appropriate to stay at home, please allow me to go to a place of asceticism.' After reporting this, the father ordered him to rule the kingdom, and although he was strongly persuaded, he stated the truth and obtained permission because he feared the suffering of samsara. Then he went to the ascetic forest, and for the benefit of sentient beings, he practiced the four immeasurables, and finally attained the state of Brahma. In the Garland of Jataka Tales of Bodhisattvas, the thirty-second chapter is the 'Birth Story of the Iron Chamber'. That great Bodhisattva, even when reincarnated as the king of buffaloes like a walking cloud, had no defilement in his heart. The extremely unruly monkey, knowing that it would not be harmed, jumped on its back and even sat on its head. Unable to bear all this, the Yaksha said to the Buffalo King: 'Clearly possessing strength and ability, why not punish these monkeys? Did you lose a bet? Or are you afraid of monkeys? Or do you simply have no ability? You shouldn't let the monkeys do whatever they want.' Hearing these words, the buffalo replied: 'These monkeys are weak and do not understand humble behavior, so compassion should be aroused for them.' The Yaksha developed reverence for the merits of this patient Bodhisattva, drove the monkey off its back, arranged guards, and then returned to his own abode.

The thirty-third chapter ends. The great Bodhisattva, like a painting with various colors, a bird with beautiful and pleasing feathers, named 'Shingta Mo' (Cart Bird), appeared. In a lush forest, having abandoned sinful food, while living happily, it heard a great lion's roar. 'What is this suffering?' it asked the lion. 'A sharp bone is stuck in my throat, and I have no power to remove it,' the lion said, sighing. Then, the Shingta Mo comforted it, and using a large branch, it opened the lion's mouth and removed the bone. After a while, the lion was distressed by hunger, and in order to obtain the three pure meats, the Shingta Mo went to the lion. However, the lion forgot the kindness and became agitated with anger. Even though the forest goddess urged it to humiliate and destroy the bird, the Shingta Mo did not want to repay the kindness but looked at the lion with compassionate eyes. The Jataka Tale of the Bodhisattva: The Story of the Shingta Mo Bird, the thirty-fourth chapter ends. Even though they are Brahma and Indra, born into high status, they have no arrogance. Even though they take birth as lowly animals, they do not neglect the benefit of sentient beings. Even if their bodies are pure, they are willing to give them away in charity, what need is there to mention other enjoyments? Even to those who harm them, they bestow benefits, what need is there to say about those who are helpful? Thus, possessing incomparable qualities, this wondrous Jataka, composed by the wise teacher and hero himself in thirty-four chapters, from which the essential meaning has been clearly extracted, with concise and easily understood words, for the benefit of beings, was made by the previous Dharma King lineage holder, Namgyal Drakpa Sangpo. Seeing this, may a collection of strong faith and desire arise. Ngawang Kunga Sonam, a mantra holder of the Khon lineage of Sakya, having seen some errors of excess or deficiency in the writings of the lineage holder, has corrected them well. Thinking of our teacher, the son of King Suddhodana, the wonderful and great deeds of the prince over countless eons, whatever is thought of is the basis of goodness. Seeing the cause for the increase of faith, it is well compiled with pure intention. May the stainless merit of this composition be given to all sentient beings as vast as the sky. May they all enter the practice of the Bodhisattvas, pacify the obstacles of the grounds and paths, complete the two accumulations, and quickly attain the unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. May it be auspicious! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
