The way the Mentok Atiyoga appeared is: After the lineage of the Buddhas' intentions, the Mentok Dzogchen will appear when it descends in six periods, which is revealed as: The power of the Hearers who are attached to the cause of permanence is weakened, karma leads to short life, they do not understand the meaning of the Buddha's words, the teachings are transformed into evil views by the dregs of the times, the antidote is powerless, and the effort of practice is weak. At that time, the Yoga of Awareness will arise. It means the time when the Hearers are attached to the cause of permanence, the time when there is a lack of faith and respect and life is short, the time when the meaning of the Buddha's words is only spoken verbally and not taken seriously, the time when the dregs of the teachings are evil views, the time when the antidote is powerless, and the time of distinguishing.

In the sixth period when I, the liberated one, appeared as Atiyoga, in the heaven of the Thirty-Three, there was a god named Dewa Sangkyong. Among the five hundred gods born from mind, there was an elder brother named Kunga Nyingpo, who possessed extraordinary qualities and delighted in meditation, known as the "Son of the Gods with Extra Mind." In the year of the Water Ox, he had four wondrous dreams. The glorious Vajrasattva, knowing that he was endowed with karma and fortune, fully revealed to him many tantras of empowerment and secret instructions in the final instant, and empowered him as the supreme regent. Thus, (his activities) expanded in the three realms of the Thirty-Three, Tushita, and Akanishta heavens. Three thousand six hundred years after the Buddha Shakyamuni passed into nirvana, in the land of Oddiyana Thorchokchen, west of Vajrasana (Bodh Gaya) in India, the daughter of King Uparaja and Queen Odlenma, a bhikshuni named Sudharma, while practicing asceticism on an island in the ocean, dreamed that a white crystal man placed a precious vase on her head and gave her empowerment, filling her body with bliss and illuminating the three realms simultaneously with light. At that time, the glorious Vajrasattva, the Son of the Gods with Extra Mind, condensed into the letter Hūṃ (藏文：ཧཱུྃ，梵文天城体：हुं，梵文罗马拟音：hūṃ，汉语字面意思：吽), and entered her womb. After ten months, the goddess gave birth to a fatherless son from her right rib. The mother, frightened, hid him in ashes, but the dakinis and gods worshipped him, and he remained unharmed. The mother asked for forgiveness and named him Rolang Dewa (Corpse-Born Bliss). At the age of seven, he debated with five hundred panditas, and none could defeat him, so he was named Prajñābhava. The king was pleased and bestowed upon him the name Garab Dorje. The dakinis called him Rolang Thaldo (Corpse-Born Ash-Colored). Thereafter, he remained in meditative equipoise on Mount Nyima Nangje. Later, in the great charnel ground Meri Barwa, he heard all the teachings of Natural Great Perfection from Vajrapani.
