To give alms in order to obtain the happiness and wealth of higher realms such as gods and humans in the next life is like borrowing money. It is giving with the expectation of fruition, and is not true giving. Therefore, abandon such thoughts and give alms without expecting return or fruition; maintain discipline without wishing for a good rebirth in the next life; cultivate patience without resentment towards all sentient beings; diligently accumulate all virtuous dharmas with joy; clarify the samadhi of meditation and formless absorption; and cultivate wisdom inseparable from skillful means and great compassion. As stated in the Ornament of the Sutras: "Giving without expectation, discipline without desire for rebirth, patience towards all beings, diligence accumulating all qualities, likewise meditation not formless, wisdom endowed with skillful means, to these six perfections, the steadfast should diligently apply." That is to say, there are three types of giving: First, giving material goods such as food, clothing, horses, and chariots gradually from small to large is a small giving; giving children and wives is a great giving; giving difficult things to give such as head, eyes, hands, and feet is an extremely great giving. As stated in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: "If the mind of compassion is not pure, one should not give up this body, but how should one use this body to accomplish great benefit for oneself and others." These are the main alms practiced by bodhisattvas at home. Giving up kingdom, children, wives, and even one's own head and body is the realm of practice for obtaining tolerance of the unborn dharma. By skillfully practicing the perfection of giving, it is said that one can obtain the fruit of a universal monarch. These are material alms. Protecting from the fears of disease, evil spirits, thieves, wild animals, kings, etc., and ultimately from the fears of samsara and the lower realms, is the alms of fearlessness. Speaking the Dharma with compassion to those who are vessels of Dharma, in accordance with the capacity of the beings to be tamed, is the Dharma giving. As stated in the Sutra of Light Protection: "Those who give the Dharma with a pure and undefiled mind are praised by the Buddhas." Monks and nuns who are Bodhisattvas mainly practice Dharma giving.

explained in the middle. There are three types of discipline: The discipline of abstaining from misconduct includes the vows of male and female lay devotees and lay practitioners on the side of householders; Śrāmaṇera, Śrāmaṇerī, and Śikṣamāṇā on the side of renunciates. Bhikṣu, these five are collected into categories, so in addition to that, they possess the two bodhicittas of aspiration and engagement. As it says in the Ornament of the Sutras: The side of renunciates possesses immeasurable qualities, therefore it is said to be superior to the bodhisattvas who are diligent in vows and householders. So it is. Whether or not the seven types of individual liberation have been taken before, the aspect of the bodhisattva's vows that is the opposite is the aspect of abandoning the basis of harming others, which is the individual liberation, and the aspect of abandoning misconduct in order to accomplish benefit for others is the bodhisattva's discipline. Gathering virtue and dharma is the mind of abandoning non-virtue in order to generate and increase the two accumulations of merit and wisdom and the six perfections in one's own mind. Benefiting sentient beings is the mind that protects from the basis of contradicting all intentions and actions that accomplish benefit for others, and skillfully accomplishes benefit directly or indirectly as much as possible, and if it is definitely for the benefit of others, even if it seems to contradict one's own discipline, it is like the faithful patron Great Compassion and the Brahmin boy Star. Patience is threefold: the patience of accepting immediate suffering for the sake of ultimate supreme happiness is accepting the hardships of practicing Dharma for oneself or for those related to oneself. The patience of not caring about the harmer is when others harm, knowing the fault that anger destroys the roots of virtue, so the mind is not disturbed, does not accept harm, and does not hold grudges, and one should endure with the asceticism of patience, as it says in the Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: There is no sin like hatred, there is no asceticism like patience, therefore one should diligently meditate on patience in various ways. The patience of definite understanding of the Dharma is the patience of not being tired of benefiting others with great compassion and not being afraid of the meaning of emptiness with profound wisdom. Diligence is the diligence of putting on armor with great intention, which is the cause of not being overwhelmed by the four maras, until all sentient beings are not placed in perfect enlightenment, I
