Deceiving those worthy of offerings, and generating regret for things that should not be regretted. Slandering the holy, and engaging in deceitful practices towards beings. Abandoning and reversing the four black dharmas, the four white dharmas are what should be constantly practiced. This is from the chapter of the Questions of Light Increase in the Ratnakuta Sutra. Light Increase, if one possesses four dharmas, one will forget the mind of enlightenment. What are the four? Deceiving the guru and those worthy of offerings, generating regret for things that are not grounds for regret, speaking ill of Bodhisattvas who have generated the mind of enlightenment with hatred, and engaging in deceitful practices towards sentient beings. Thus it is said. The advice to cultivate the four white dharmas is: The four white dharmas are: Relying on the holy and praising their qualities. Encouraging sentient beings to engage in virtue. Generating the perception of the Sugata towards the sons of the Buddhas. Benefiting beings with pure intention. Practice these four excellent white dharmas. This is to say that abandoning falsehood becomes the basis for benefiting sentient beings. Generating the perception of the Sugata towards Bodhisattvas becomes an extraordinary friend on the path. Abiding with pure intention without deceit represents relying on the holy and praising their qualities, following all virtuous deeds. Establishing all sentient beings in the Great Vehicle is encouraging the generation of the extraordinary virtuous mind of enlightenment. It is said in that very text: Light Increase, if one possesses four dharmas, one will not forget the mind of enlightenment. What are the four? Knowingly not speaking falsehood, generating the perception of the Sugata towards Bodhisattvas, abiding with pure intention without deceit towards sentient beings, and truly establishing all sentient beings in the Great Vehicle. Thus it is said. Secondly, the precepts for entering (the practice) are, from the Definitive Treatise on the Three Vows: Attachment to gain and honor, self-praise and disparagement of others, stinginess and not giving material things, Dharma, and wealth, harming others with anger, not stopping with scolding, and acting as if practicing Dharma with pretense. These four are root downfalls, the precepts for entering (the practice). That is to say, having strong attachment and clinging to gain, offerings, honor, seats, and power, and for the sake of obtaining gain and honor, praising oneself, disparaging others who have gain and honor, whichever the other party may be.

If understood as the heavy defeat of a Shravaka Bhikshu, then the first downfall of a Bodhisattva, like a place of fundamental defeat, is: not giving alms to those who are suffering and impoverished due to the great entanglement of miserliness, and not bestowing the true Dharma upon a suitable vessel, this is the second downfall. Even if the offenses committed by others have been purified through confession, still holding onto resentment with great entanglement, or not being satisfied with anger and harsh words towards others, but proceeding to beat and torment, causing harm. The third downfall is, disparaging the Bodhisattva's Pitaka by saying, "This is not the Buddha's word," abandoning the true Dharma due to the great entanglement of ignorance, or oneself or others, through deceitful means, pretending non-Buddhist teachings to be Buddhist teachings, and believing it, pretending non-Dharma to be Dharma and proclaiming it, this is the fourth downfall. These, arising from attachment, miserliness, hatred, and ignorance, are the four root downfalls from the perspective of intention, but from the perspective of action, dividing each of the four downfalls into two, so there are eight, this is the view of Lord Atisha. These four root downfalls are scattered in various Sutras and were compiled by the Holy Asanga in the Bodhisattva-bhumi. The forty-six minor offenses are stated in the "Twentieth Vow Sutra": There are thirty-four that contradict the accumulation of virtue and Dharma, seven that contradict generosity, nine that contradict ethics, four that contradict patience, three that contradict diligence, three that contradict meditation, and eight that contradict wisdom, these are six categories. There are twelve that contradict benefiting sentient beings, among which, there are four faults that harm the benefit of others, six faults that do not benefit others, and two faults that do not punish the wicked. These can be found in the scriptures. Secondly, regarding the ethics of accumulating virtue and Dharma, all the practices of a Bodhisattva are included in the three trainings, all the virtues encompassed by the six perfections, with the mind of practice and its corresponding mind, separated from their respective opposing factors, encompassed by the wisdom of the three spheres being pure, the function is to understand the wishes of others, after acting in this way, by teaching the Dharma, to ripen their respective capacities and corresponding three Bodhisattvas, this is possessing four characteristics. Giving alms in this life for the sake of obtaining one's own food, clothing, and wealth is like doing business, it is giving with the expectation of return, comin
