It will surely be burned. Thus it is said. If a person with Bodhicitta has the power to increase the virtue of great compassion, then even if they become negligent, all the efforts of body, speech, and mind are meaningful, and they become a pillar of offering in the world. Furthermore, as it is said in the Bodhisattvacaryāvatāra: 'From now on, even if one falls asleep or becomes negligent, the power of merit will not cease, but will increase as vast as the sky.' It is also said that virtue not grasped by Bodhicitta is inferior and will be exhausted, but that which is grasped by Bodhicitta will increase greatly and will not be exhausted. Furthermore, as it is said in the same text: 'All other virtues are like fruit trees, which, after bearing fruit, are exhausted. But the Bodhi-mind tree always bears fruit, and increases without exhaustion.' Thus it is said. One becomes worthy of being revered by all. Furthermore, as it is said in the same text: 'Once the Bodhi-mind is generated, in an instant, those miserable beings bound in the prison of samsara are called the sons of the Sugatas, and become worthy of reverence by gods and humans in the world.' Thus it is said. If one becomes angry with such a Bodhisattva, one generates non-merit. Furthermore, as it is said in the same text: 'If someone generates evil thoughts towards such a prince and benefactor, then, as the Buddha said, he will dwell in hell for countless eons, according to the number of evil thoughts generated.' Thus it is said. If one has faith, virtue will increase even more. Furthermore, as it was said earlier: 'However, if someone generates great faith, then his fruit will increase even more.' Thus it is said. In the Secret Inconceivable Sutra, it is said: 'The merit of Bodhicitta, if it had form, would fill all of space, and would still exceed it.' Thus it is said. Generating Bodhicitta is wanting to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others. As it is said in the Abhisamayalankara: 'The generation of Bodhicitta is wanting perfect enlightenment for the sake of others.' Thus it is said. Moreover, mind is the knowing of the essence of things, and by examining the differences of mental factors, here, by generating the essence, the differences will also be generated along the way, just as when generating intention, Bodhicitta, and so on, they are also obtained along the way. Of the two, aspiring and engaging Bodhicitta, aspiring Bodhicitta is wanting to attain Bodhi.

It is aspiration, and entering is combining oneself with that Dharma. For example, it is like wanting to walk and walking. The Bodhichitta, in brief, should be known as two types, which are the aspiration to Bodhi and entering into Bodhi. The difference between wanting to walk and walking should be known as such. Thus it is. Aspiration does not have the merit of continuously producing fruit, but entering has the distinction of continuously producing merit. As it is said in the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: From the mind of aspiring to enlightenment, even if great fruits arise in samsara, it is not like the mind of entering, which continuously produces merit. Thus it is. Many distinctions should be known, as it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: By the distinction of conventional and ultimate, that Bodhichitta is of two types. Thus it is. It can also be divided into two types of Bodhichitta, that of ordinary beings and that of noble beings, or into two types, that of focusing on external sentient beings and that of focusing on one's own internal nature, which are called conventional and ultimate Bodhichitta. And depending on the three trainings or three precepts of accumulating virtue, benefiting sentient beings, and restraining from misdeeds, there are three types of Bodhichitta. In the accumulation and preparation stages, there is practice with faith, from the first to the seventh bhumis there is pure higher intention, the three pure bhumis are the result of maturation, and in the Buddha-bhumi there is the Bodhichitta of abandoning obscurations, making a total of four. The Bodhichitta of the five paths of accumulation, preparation, seeing, meditation, and no-more-learning is five types. Depending on the six perfections, there are six types, and depending on the ten perfections, there are ten types. The twenty-two distinctions of the stages are shown by examples, as stated in the Sutra Requested by Blo-gros rgya-mtsho: That is, earth, gold, crescent moon, fire, treasure and jewel mine sea, vajra, mountain, medicine, spiritual friend, wish-fulfilling jewel, sun, naga, king, treasury and great road, vehicle, adorned water, musical instrument, river, and clouds, are the twenty-two aspects. Thus, the meanings of these are in order: Aspiration is like earth, intention is like gold, and higher intention is like a waxing moon. These three are in order the Bodhichitta of the small, medium, and large accumulation paths, hence they are called as such. Preparation is like fire, which is the four of the preparation path.
