Ma! Like lightning flashing in the rain clouds, or a bird carrying something from a wormhole, for such a wavering and changing phenomenon, no activity in this life can deceive death. As it is said in the Manjushri Play Sutra: "Parents are not your protectors, nor are friends and relatives your refuge. They will abandon you and you will go alone to the next life." Also, as it is said in the Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury: "At the time of death, residence and enjoyment, relatives and brave armies, etc., none can save you, so practice the supreme Dharma." Therefore, the relied-upon dwelling, the house, the constructed castle, the accumulated wealth, the rule of a Chakravartin, the treasury of the rich, all the desired wealth, the closely related relatives and friends, no retinue or power can save you. The youth of the body and the skills of a hero, the swiftness of running, the ingenuity of intelligence, the eloquence of speech, the subdued demeanor, the fierce actions, the evil deceptions, the weapons of human power, secret mantras, vidyas, siddhis, clairvoyance, medicine, astrology, divination, gods and protectors, none can save you, and you must go alone like a hair pulled from a wool pile. As it is said in the Vinaya Sutra: "Here, even the powerful, those in high positions, and the long-lived gods, will decay when their lifespan is exhausted. Who can escape death today? Bravery cannot protect, kings are bound and imprisoned, asceticism, labor, patience, a large retinue, and wisdom, how can they escape death?" As the great teacher Padmasambhava said: "Impermanence, do not be negligent, death urges you on, divide the day and night into periods, and constantly meditate." If impermanence and death are engraved in your heart, there is no way that renunciation and detachment will not arise, and you will generate thoughts of meaninglessness and uselessness towards the body, possessions, retinue, fame, and all the appearances of this life. As the wise ones said: "Seeking is the root of afflictions, desiring to enjoy after obtaining is the basis of stinginess, if it is taken away by others, it only increases lamentation, what is the use of wealth that is useless after death?" Having few desires is the lineage of the noble ones, and the extinction of desires is the true noble one.

As a sign, one should train in having few desires. If the motivation for practicing the Dharma, which is impermanence, arises well in the mind, then attachment to samsaric dharmas will cease, and there will be no attachment or aversion towards enemies and friends. As a sign, diligence in virtuous actions will naturally arise, therefore, those who desire liberation should constantly practice a consistent practice of inner and outer harmony. Third, contemplating the way sentient beings experience the results of karma, briefly, is to rely on the explanations from the root texts; explaining in a slightly more detailed manner is to explain the meaning of the sutras and tantras. The first is: All sentient beings of the six realms of the three realms, which arise from the alaya and ignorance, are created solely by the results of karma, and arise from the nature of karma. Therefore, the results of karma are infallible. Because of believing in karma, one should diligently engage in taking and abandoning good and bad results as the path. Thus it is said. The second is: The dharmadhatu, which is not separated in either samsara or nirvana, in a state like the sky, the nature of awareness is primordially uncompounded, abiding in a spontaneously accomplished state, these are the terms established from that aspect. In the sutras, it is called the Tathagatagarbha, the Dhatu, Awareness, the luminous nature of mind, the Dharmadhatu, the ultimate truth, the reality, and the Suchness that is naturally pure. In the Prajnaparamita. In the tantras, it is called the indivisible true essence of emptiness and clarity, the Alaya of the meaning of reality, the Alaya of the meaning of union, the beginningless good Dharmadhatu, co-emergent wisdom, the great seal of luminosity, the great bliss of the son inseparable from the Dharmadhatu and wisdom, the self-abiding wisdom, the beginningless and endless Bodhicitta Samantabhadra, and the primordial Buddha, etc. There are very many names established from the aspects of the basis, the source, and the cause of separation. This, based on ignorance, becomes the basis of samsaric phenomena, the eight consciousness aggregates and habitual tendencies, the nature of good and non-good, the support of all conditioned phenomena, thus manifesting various sufferings and pleasures, is the Alaya with various habitual tendencies, as well as co-emergent ignorance, beginningless and endless obscurations, great darkness, and primordial ignorance.
