This human body endowed with Dharma, adorned with perfect qualities, is extremely difficult to obtain. To obtain a human body and practice the Dharma accordingly, one must accumulate the two accumulations of merit and wisdom. Therefore, contemplate the difficulty of obtaining a human body and take it as a basis and companion for practicing the Dharma. Thus it is said. Secondly, the extensive explanation. In the Sutra of Explaining Leisure, it says: For example, it is like a blind person finding a precious jewel in a garbage heap. Similarly, it is extremely difficult for sentient beings wandering in samsara, blinded by the darkness of ignorance, to obtain the essence of a human being. You should always practice virtuous Dharma. Thus it is said. The meaning of this is: a body that is free from the eight states of unfreedom. What is that like? In the Liberation of Brahma King's Hot Womb, it says: Freedom from the eight states of unfreedom is also difficult to obtain. Obtaining a human body is also difficult to obtain. Obtaining perfect leisure is also difficult to obtain. The appearance of a Buddha is also difficult to obtain. Having complete faculties is also difficult to obtain. Hearing the Buddha's teachings is also difficult to obtain. Associating with holy beings is also difficult to obtain. Meeting with true virtuous friends is also difficult to obtain. Thus it is said. If one is born in the three realms of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals, one must constantly experience suffering, so the body is not free. Long-lived gods have no awareness of practicing Dharma. These are the four external states of unfreedom. If one is not born in these places, even if one obtains a human body, a mute person has no ability to communicate the meaning of words, which is speech unfreedom. A barbarian who has no intelligence to enter the teachings, a person with wrong views who does not believe in karma and falls into the extreme of slander, and one who does not even hear the name of the Three Jewels, born in a dark age, is called empty of Buddhas. These four are mind unfreedom, because one is not born in these places. Therefore, one has obtained a basis with perfect leisure. In the Compendium, it says: Abandoning the eight unfreedoms, one always obtains leisure. And in the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses, it says: Hell beings, hungry ghosts, and animals.

Long-life gods and barbarians, and, the heretical view of the emptiness of the Buddha, and the dumb, these are the eight unfree states. Thus it is said. In the "Letter to a Friend" sent by the teacher Nagarjuna to King Pleasant Conduct, it says: Holding wrong views and animals, hungry ghosts and being born in hell, places without the Buddha's command and border regions, being born as barbarians and foolish and dumb, long-life gods, wherever they are born, are called the eight faults of unfree states. Having separated from these and obtained leisure, strive to prevent rebirth. Thus it is said. The so-called "abundance" is from the "Sutra Explaining the Twelve Perfections of Leisure": Obtaining a human body, being born in a noble land, having complete senses, not reversing the results of karma, and having faith in the Dharma, these five are self-perfection. The Buddha's appearance, the preaching of the Dharma, the abiding of the holy Dharma, other beings also practicing it, and having love for those who practice the Dharma, these five are other-perfection. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the "Moon Essence Sutra" says: A person with ten qualities is abundant, what are the ten? Abandoning low birth, not being a fool, senses not impaired, being born as a male, having a good appearance, not being poor, not being despised, having pleasant speech, being looked upon by many people. Thus it is said. The "Tantra Commentary" also says: Obtaining a human body, being born in the central land, having complete senses, not creating evil karma, believing in the Dharma are the five self-abundances. The teacher's appearance, the Dharma's preaching, the doctrine's abiding, following the Dharma, loving beings are the five other-abundances. Thus it is said. Thus, the five self-abundances are the same in meaning as leisure and perfection, and the other-love in the five other-abundances refers to oneself being taken care of by a virtuous friend, who guides one to enter the Dharma with love. Leisure is the essence, while abundance is its characteristic quality. Furthermore, the "Letter to a Friend" says: Living in a harmonious land, relying on a superior person, Having made good wishes, and also accumulated merit in the past, You possess the four great wheels. Thus it is said. Living in a land where the Dharma flourishes, without obstacles to practicing the Dharma, respectfully relying on a superior person who preaches the Dharma, having made good wishes for practicing the Dharma oneself, awakening in this life.
