There are also eight cold hells: the Blister Hell, the Bursting Blister Hell, the Chattering Teeth Hell, the Achuwa Hell, the кыi hуд zerwa Hell, the Lotus-like Cracking Hell, the Utpala-like Cracking Hell, and the Utpala-like Great Cracking Hell. The lifespan of these eight hells is that they can endure countless, immeasurable great kalpas. The extent of suffering is that one can only experience the manifestation of karma of being completely tormented by great cold. In the extremely dark, dark blizzard-swept, and extremely cold world, one must endure unspeakable suffering of being exhausted by the cold. The karma for being born there is to engage in the ten non-virtuous actions, to hate the teachings of the Three Jewels and hold wrong views, to destroy the supports of body, speech, and mind (Buddha images, scriptures, stupas) and temples, and to prevent ascetics or practitioners from living in the forest, not allowing them to practice, and so on. The sutra says: "Like taking out one sesame seed every hundred years from a sesame store, when the sesame seeds are exhausted, that is the lifespan of the Blister Hell, and the lifespan of the other hells is twenty times that." These are explanations of the lifespan, happiness, and suffering of the hot and cold hell realms, and the order of the karmic results that lead to being born there. Not only that, but also the place where beings who have broken the vows of the four empowerments of the unsurpassed secret mantra, who have wrongly practiced special views and meditations, and who have held wrong views on the profound views and meditations of the special intentions of the Buddhas are born, is called the Vajra Burning Great Hell and the Various Burning Great Hells. Among them, the lifespan of the hell called Vajra Burning Hell, or the Great Vajra Hell, is that one must experience the suffering of four countless great kalpas and three million, two hundred million, eight hundred thousand, thirty-four thousand years. The extent of suffering is that in that great world made of molten iron from the sky, from the flames that burn like the fire of the end of the kalpa, hot, sharp sparks like molten iron drip down, and a vajra rain falls drizzling, and the heads of all beings born there are split open, flesh and bones are reduced to powder, and the suffering of being split into pieces is experienced.

The suffering is also like being on a great continent where the ground is made of intensely burning meteoric iron. Accompanied by the sounds of various weapons striking, in each moment, hundreds and thousands of weapons rain down on each sentient being, destroying them into ashes. Among the pretas, there is also one called "Those with External Obstructions," because all food and drink appear as pus, blood, and various kinds of vomit, making it impossible to consume, hence the name "Those with External Obstructions." Their lifespan can also last for ten million kotis of kalpas, and they also have a bardo existence. The extent of their suffering is that even though they have hunger and thirst like someone craving water, when they see food and drink, they only see pus, blood, and impure things, and they have no power to eat or drink. The karma that causes them to be born there arises from stealing and robbing others' wealth in their previous lives. Their bodies are diverse or sixteen cubits tall. As stated in the Abhidharma, the location is five hundred yojanas from the center of Jambudvipa, where the pretas with external obstructions reside. Those with internal obstructions are so named because when they think of enjoying food and indulging in it, fire blazes forth from the food they are enjoying. Their lifespan is one hundred million years. The karma that causes them to be born there is solely due to being extremely stingy with their own wealth in their previous lives and never approaching the side of generosity. The extent of their suffering is that because their stomachs are large, they can never be satisfied no matter what they eat. Even if they are satisfied, their limbs are too thin to support them. Even if they find food, their mouths are too narrow to hold it. Even if food enters their stomachs, it blazes like a heap of fire, so they must endure intense burning and other sufferings. Their bodies also have a stomach with a circumference of five hundred yojanas, limbs as thin as horsehair, and mouths as small as the eye of a needle. As it says in the Sutra: "Some have mouths as small as the eye of a needle, while their bellies are swollen as large as mountains, causing them to suffer." Those called "Garlands of Flames" are so named because all appearances are perceived as burning flames, and they feel intensely burned. Their lifespan is one hundred million years. Suffering
