Bestowing auspiciousness! Homage to the Sugatas! I, the translator Kluwangdrung, with reverence prostrated and circumambulated Guru Rinpoche. I offered a golden mandala and requested with a silver bowl filled with chang: For the sake of future beings, please bestow a precious, profound, and concise empowerment of the blessings of the Tathagatas. The great master said: Son of noble family, listen carefully and write it down! Since I wish to bestow the empowerment of the aspiration of the supreme Tathagatas, the dwelling should be sprinkled with saffron and fragrant water. The platform should be decorated beautifully according to the size of the place, and anointed with camphor water. On it, place vases equal to the number of deities, filled one-third with fragrant water. Eight vases adorned with protective threads, conch shells, scriptures, fruit-bearing trees, and peacock feathers should be arranged in the center and directions. On top of a precious mandala, place a fine torma made by mixing honey, molasses, brown sugar, butter, fragrant water, and whatever else is available, in front of the main vase. Scatter clean rice or flour shaped into round, decorated tormas, equal in number to the deities, around the outside. It is also good to have painted thangkas as decorations for the deity vases. Also arrange the eight auspicious substances and the eight auspicious symbols, etc. The tormas for the protectors of the teachings and treasures should be arranged well. Offerings of various kinds, such as incense, flowers, butter lamps, etc., should be arranged abundantly. After completing the generation of the vase, praise, and recitation, etc., take the self-initiation. Purify the five limbs of the disciples with water from the action vase. Holding a fine mandala in the left hand, recite: Namo, I prostrate, offer, and take refuge! Tathagata, King of the Earth! Great Destroyer, Vajra Body! Great Hero, Possessing Great Power! Protect us from the fears of samsara! Lead us to the supreme field of liberation! May we be ripened in the truly supreme state! The master says: Listen, sons of noble family gathered here! If you wish to be liberated from the fears of suffering and samsara, and have the mind of renunciation, then in the mandala of the unsurpassed teacher, the Bhagavan, the Eight Sugatas, I will take you in. Take the eight-limbed vows. Give the upavasatha vow to the monastics and the upasaka vow to the lay practitioners. Then, proceed to the actual empowerment.
