There, having separately folded their palms in reverence, they entreated the Bhagavan thus: "Venerable Bhagavan, in future times, sentient beings will be completely tormented by various diseases. Due to prolonged illness, the flesh of their bodies will wither, they will be emaciated from hunger, and their throats and lips will dry from thirst. They will clearly be heading towards death. Friends, relatives, and even in-laws will surround them, weeping. They will see darkness in all directions and be led away by the messengers of Yama. Even though their body lies here, their consciousness will be led away by the Dharma King Yama. The god born together with that person, following like a shadow, will meticulously write down the good or bad deeds he has done and present them to the Dharma King Yama. The Dharma King Yama will question and investigate him, and then pronounce judgment according to the good or bad deeds he has done. If someone, for the sake of that sick person, seeks refuge in the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Prabha and makes offerings in this way, then his consciousness will return, and like a dream, he will reach the place he himself recognizes. Either for seven days, or twenty-one days, or thirty-five days, or forty-nine days, his consciousness will return and regain memory. He himself will directly experience the ripening of the results of good and bad deeds, and for the sake of life, he will not commit evil deeds again. Therefore, sons or daughters of good family with faith should make offerings to the Tathagata." Then, the venerable Ananda said to the Bodhisattva Kyabdro: "Son of good family, how should one make offerings to the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Prabha?" The Bodhisattva Kyabdro said: "Venerable Ananda, those who wish to be completely liberated from great illness should, for the sake of that sick person, take the eight-limbed uposatha vows for seven days and seven nights. They should offer food, drink, and all necessities to the Sangha of monks to the best of their ability. Three times during the day and three times during the night,

One should remember the name of the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Master Bhaisajyaguru, the light of lapis lazuli, in Um (藏文:ུམ་). This sutra should be recited forty-nine times. Forty-nine lamps should be offered. Seven Buddha images should be made. In front of each Buddha image, seven lamps should also be placed. The size of each lamp should be about the size of a chariot wheel. To the best of one's ability, the lamps should not be extinguished for forty-nine days. The height of the five-colored banner should exceed forty-nine. Furthermore, Ananda, for those who have been consecrated from the head of the royal lineage, whether they are troubled by disease, or by their own army, or by the army of the enemy, or by the stars, or by the planets, or by the planets and the sun, or by untimely wind and rain, or by drought, whatever the calamity may be, as well as the spread of epidemics, or if a conflict is about to occur, the one consecrated from the head of the royal lineage should have a compassionate heart towards all sentient beings and release those who have been imprisoned. As mentioned before, if such offerings are made to the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Master Bhaisajyaguru, then the roots of virtue of the one consecrated from the head of the royal lineage, and the special qualities of the past aspirations of the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Master Bhaisajyaguru, will bring peace and prosperity to the country. The wind and rain will be timely, and the crops will be abundant. All sentient beings living in that country will also be free from disease, happy, and greatly joyful. In that country, yakshas, rakshasas, ghosts, and carnivorous fiends will not harass sentient beings. All inauspicious omens will not appear. The life, complexion, strength, health, and power of the one consecrated from the head of the royal lineage will visibly increase. Then, the venerable Ananda said to the Bodhisattva Savior: Son of good family, if life is about to end, how can it be prolonged? The Bodhisattva Savior said: Venerable Ananda, there are nine untimely deaths

Haven't you heard it from the Tathagata? Therefore, the combinations of mantras and medicines are taught. When sentient beings are afflicted by disease, even if the illness is not severe, will they lack medicine and attendance? Or there may be incompetent doctors practicing medicine. This is the first untimely death. The second untimely death is when some die by the punishment of the king. The third untimely death is when some are very negligent; for those who dwell negligently, non-humans will seize their essence. The fourth untimely death is when some are burned to death by fire. The fifth untimely death is when some die by drowning. The sixth untimely death is when some fall into lions, tigers, foxes, snakes, and fierce beasts and die. The seventh untimely death is when some fall from cliffs. The eighth untimely death is when some are killed by mixtures of poison, curses, and zombies. The ninth untimely death is when some cannot find food and drink, and suffer from hunger and thirst and die. In short, these untimely deaths taught by the Tathagata are great, and other untimely deaths are countless and immeasurable. Then, in that assembly, twelve great Yaksha commanders gathered together: the great Yaksha commander Jijika, the great Yaksha commander Vajra, the great Yaksha commander Jewel Holder, the great Yaksha commander Star Holder, the great Yaksha commander Wind, the great Yaksha commander Place Possessor, the great Yaksha commander Freedom Holder, the great Yaksha commander Drink Holder, the great Yaksha commander Speech Holder, the great Yaksha commander Thought Holder, the great Yaksha commander Movement Holder, the great Yaksha commander Completion Maker. These are the twelve great Yaksha commanders. Each great Yaksha commander has seven hundred thousand attendant Yakshas; these are their vows.
