and will always find the company of virtuous friends. They will be able to cut the snares of Mara, break the shell of the egg of ignorance, and dry up the river of afflictions. They will be completely liberated from birth, old age, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and strife. Mañjuśrī, furthermore, some sentient beings are particularly fond of enemies and slanderers. Some sentient beings cause each other to fight, argue, and compete. Those sentient beings, having become minds of contention, manifestly engage in various non-virtues with body, speech, and mind. They wish each other no benefit and constantly strive to harm each other. They invoke forest deities, tree deities, and mountain deities. In cemeteries, they invoke various different spirits. They kill living beings who have gone to the animal realm, and they make offerings to yakshas and rakshasas who eat flesh and blood. They pronounce the name of that enemy or create an image, and there they accomplish fierce mantras, causing obstacles to life through curses and the union of corpses, and desiring to completely destroy the body. For those who have heard the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Light, no one will be able to create obstacles, and they will abide in minds of mutual love, minds of benefit, and minds without harmful intent. They will be content with their own possessions. Mañjuśrī, furthermore, those bhikshus, bhikshunis, upasakas, and upasikas of the four assemblies, and other sons or daughters of good family who abide closely in the eight-limbed upavasatha vow, observing the precepts for one year or three months, and thinking in their minds, "By this root of my virtue, may I be born in the western world, the Land of Bliss where the Tathagata Amitayus resides." Among those who have made such aspirations, those who have heard the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Light, at the time of death

At that time, eight Bodhisattvas will descend by means of miraculous power and become guides, and they will be born there by transformation from lotuses of various colors. Those who are born in the world of the gods, after being born there, their previous roots of virtue will not be exhausted, and they will not go to the lower realms. Then, after death and transference, they will become sovereign wheel-turning kings in this human world of the four continents, and will be able to place countless billions of sentient beings on the path of the ten virtuous actions. Alternatively, they will be born into royal families, like the home of a great sala tree; Brahmin families, like the home of a great sala tree; and householder families, like the home of a great sala tree; and be born into families possessing wealth, grain, treasuries, and many granaries, possessing perfect form, perfect power, perfect attendants, bravery, fortitude, and endowed with the strength of great power. Any woman who hears and holds the name of the Tathagata should know that her female body is the last. Then, the youth Manjushri said to the Bhagavan: Bhagavan, in the future age, for those sons or daughters of good family who explain, recite, uphold this sutra, and also extensively and correctly show it to others, write it down, bind it into volumes, and honor it with flowers, incense, garlands, unguents, parasols, and banners, I will proclaim in various ways the name of the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Prabha, and even in dreams, I will cause the name of the Buddha to be heard in their ears. If it is wrapped with five-colored threads and placed in a clean place, the great king and his retinue, and countless billions of other gods will also come to where this sutra is located. Those who [recite] the name and former vows of the Bhagavan Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Prabha

Those who cling to distinctions will not die prematurely, and no one can take away their splendor; even if it is taken, it will return. The Blessed One said: Mañjuśrī, it is so, just as you have said. Mañjuśrī, any son or daughter of good family who has faith, if they make offerings to the Tathāgata, they should make an image of the Tathāgata, and for seven days they should abide in the upavāsa with the eight branches of the noble path. They should eat pure food, bathe their bodies well, wear fine, immaculate clothes, and in a clean place scatter various flowers, burn various incenses, and adorn the place well with silk, umbrellas, and various banners. They should have a mind free from defilement, a mind free from turbidity, a mind free from harm, a mind of loving-kindness, a mind of equanimity, and a mind of equality. They should play music, cymbals, and sing songs, and circumambulate the image of the Tathāgata, remembering their former aspirations, and if they expound this sūtra, then all their thoughts and aspirations will be completely fulfilled. If they aspire to long life, they will have long life. If they aspire to wealth, they will obtain wealth. If they desire power, they will obtain it with little effort. If they desire a son, they will obtain a son. Those who have bad dreams, or who see hawks and bad omens, or in whatever place a hundred inauspicious things exist, if they make various offerings and pay homage to the Blessed One, the Tathāgata Medicine Guru Vaiḍūryaprabha, they will not see bad dreams, bad omens, or inauspicious things. Those who are afraid of fire, afraid of water, afraid of weapons, afraid of poison, afraid of cliffs, afraid of fierce elephants, afraid of lions, afraid of tigers, bears, and poisonous snakes, scorpions, and eight-legged creatures,
