Having satisfied the body with food that is oily, fragrant, and flavorful, may I later rejoice in the extreme bliss of the taste of Dharma. Thus, it was vowed. The twelfth great aspiration of that Thus-gone One is: When I attain unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment in the future, may I give clothes that are suitable for use, dyed in various colors, to those sentient beings who are naked, without clothing, poor, suffering, cold, hot, and who experience the feeling of suffering day and night from mosquitoes and flies. May all sentient beings have all their thoughts completely fulfilled with various precious ornaments, essences, garlands, incense, unguents, music, cymbals, and drums, just as they desire. Thus, it was vowed. Manjushri, the Blessed One, the Thus-gone One, the Foe-Destroyer, the perfectly complete Buddha, Medicine Guru, the Light of Lapis Lazuli, when he was practicing the conduct of a Bodhisattva in the past, made these twelve great aspirations. Manjushri, the aspiration of the Thus-gone One, Medicine Guru, the Light of Lapis Lazuli, and the qualities of the Buddha-field, cannot be exhausted even in a kalpa or more than a kalpa. That Buddha-field is extremely pure, without stones, gravel, pebbles, without the faults of desire, without lower realms, without the sound of suffering, without the nature of women, the land, walls, fences, pillars, window lattices, and balconies are of the nature of lapis lazuli, the beams are of the nature of the seven precious jewels. Just like the realm of Sukhavati, the qualities and arrangement of the Buddha-field that appears as the realm of lapis lazuli are the same. In that world, among the countless and immeasurable Bodhisattvas, there are two chief Bodhisattva Mahasattvas, one named Sunlight Illuminating, and the second named Moonlight Illuminating. They are the Blessed One, the Thus-gone One, Medicine Guru, the Light of Lapis Lazuli.

They are the holders of the treasury of the sacred Dharma of that land. Manjushri, therefore, may sons or daughters of good family who have faith obtain the aspiration to be born in that Buddha-field. Again, the Blessed One spoke to Manjushri, who had become a youth, saying: Manjushri, there are beings, individual beings, who are devoid of virtue, who do not know what is virtuous and non-virtuous. They are overcome by attachment, and do not know giving and the ripening of the fruits of giving. They are foolish children, devoid of the power of faith, and are manifestly diligent in accumulating and protecting wealth, but their minds do not turn to properly making offerings. When the time for giving is near, they become displeased, as if cutting off the flesh of their own bodies. Those beings, even if they do not fully use themselves, what need is there to mention giving to father, mother, wife, son, and daughter? What need is there to mention male slaves, female slaves, and workers? What need is there to mention other beggars? Such beings as these, after dying from here, will be born in the world of pretas. Or they will be born in the realm of animals. Among them, those who were formerly human beings, who have heard the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata Medicine Guru Vaidurya Light, even if they dwell in the world of Yama, or dwell in the realm of animals, there, as soon as the name of that Tathagata appears and is remembered, after dying from there, they will be born again in the human world, and they will remember their past lives. Fearing the terrors of the lower realms, not seeking the qualities of desirable objects, and being manifestly delighted in giving, praising the virtues of giving, and giving up all possessions, gradually giving even their own heads, hands, feet, eyes, flesh, and blood to those who beg, what need is there to mention other heaps of wealth? Manjushri, furthermore, there are beings who hold the places of learning of the Tathagatas, those who have entered into wrong conduct in morality, and having entered into wrong views, those who possess morality

They only keep the precepts of those people, and do not seek extensive learning. They do not understand the profound meaning of the sutras spoken by the Tathagata. Those who have heard much will become exceedingly arrogant, and being oppressed by arrogance, they will be jealous of others and usurp the holy Dharma, and will eventually abandon it. Such foolish people are on the side of the demons. They themselves enter the evil path, and cause countless other beings to fall into a great abyss. Such beings will go to unbearable hells. If someone in the past was a human being and heard the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Medicine Master, the Lapis Lazuli Light Buddha, even if those beings are in hell, by the power of the Buddha, the name of the Tathagata will appear. They will be reborn from there again in the human world, possessing vast views, diligence, and good thoughts. They will renounce their homes and become ordained in the teachings of that Tathagata, and will eventually practice the conduct of a Bodhisattva. Manjushri, some beings praise me, but out of jealousy, they speak ill of other precept holders. Those beings who praise me and curse others will suffer for thousands of years in the three evil realms. After countless thousands of years, they will die from there and be reborn as animals such as cows, horses, mules, and donkeys. They will be beaten with whips and sticks, their bodies will suffer from hunger and thirst, and they will carry heavy loads on the road. If they are fortunate enough to be reborn as humans, they will always be born into lowly castes, becoming slaves and being controlled by others. If someone in the past was a human being and heard the name of the Blessed One, the Tathagata, the Medicine Master, the Lapis Lazuli Light Buddha, they will be completely liberated from all suffering by that root of virtue, and will become sharp-witted, intelligent, open-minded, and aspire to seek all good dharmas.
