Those who commit various sinful and non-virtuous deeds, those beings who go to the three lower realms and the hell realms, being born in the great hells and experiencing suffering, by my power, may they keep my name in mind, and by verbally reciting my name, may all their karmic obscurations, including the five heinous crimes, be completely purified and completely exhausted. Until I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, may I not go to the hell realms and the lower realms. May I experience the happiness of the gods of the heavenly realms and the happiness of humans. Thus I prayed. This is the fourth great aspiration: When I, in the future, attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, may any sentient beings who have become poor, lacking food, drink, clothing, wealth, grain, bedding, incense, and garlands, by my power, may they keep my name in mind, and by verbally reciting my name, may their wealth, clothing, riches, grain, bedding, incense, and garlands increase until the end of enlightenment. Thus I prayed. This is the fifth great aspiration: When I, in the future time, attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, may any sentient beings who are bound, beaten, imprisoned, and whose bodies are tormented by various collections of weapons, by my power, may they keep my name in mind, and by verbally reciting my name, may they be completely liberated from all bonds and beatings until the end of enlightenment, and may all physical suffering cease. Thus I prayed. This is the sixth great aspiration: When I, in the future time, attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, may any sentient beings who have become helpless, with the fire of suffering burning on their bodies, falling among lions, tigers, bears, wild bears, and venomous snakes, fearing for their lives and being terrified, helpless, uttering various cries of distress, by my power, may they keep my name in mind, and my name

May those who recite it seven times, until the ultimate of enlightenment, pacify all the fires of suffering on their bodies. May lions, tigers, bears, grizzlies, and venomous snakes also abide in loving-kindness, and abide in a place of fearlessness and peace. Thus he prayed. His seventh great aspiration is: When I, in the future, attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, whatever sentient beings quarrel with each other, argue, and contend, causing turmoil, fear, and panic, may they, through my power, remember my name in their minds, and recite my name seven times. May all their fighting, battles, arguments, and contentions be completely pacified until the ultimate of enlightenment. May they abide in loving-kindness with each other. Thus he prayed. His eighth great aspiration is: When I, in the future, attain the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment, whatever sentient beings enter the water, embark on ships to go to places without islands, desire life and enter rivers and oceans, uttering various cries of distress, may they, through my power, remember my name in their minds, and recite my name seven times in their minds. May they, until the ultimate of enlightenment, be given a breath in that great river, and cross over without fear. Thus he prayed. Manjushri, the Bhagavan Tathagata, the King of Auspicious Glory, Whose Name is Well-Known, made these eight great aspirations. Manjushri, from the time the Bhagavan, the King of Auspicious Glory, Whose Name is Well-Known, first generated the mind of enlightenment, the basis of his aspirations and the power of his samadhi, the conduct of the Bodhisattva, the offerings and services to the Tathagata, the various transformations, the purification of the Buddha-field, and the perfect Bodhisattvas who have long attended him, only the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfect and complete Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas abiding on the ten bhumis can know, and all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot in a hundred years
