Just a traveler resting for a while, This brief stay in this direction, You have neither benefit nor harm to others. I am greatly afraid of falling into the lower realms, Besides accomplishing the self-benefit of the six-syllable mantra, I have no thought of guarding against hail and other bindings of elemental spirits. On the pure, spontaneously accomplished, vast ground, By the self-arisen, naturally pure being, A plow of inseparable method and wisdom is held, A plow and share of perfectly pure action are given, The seed of ultimate, unchanging meaning is scattered, A dance of casting imprints into the expanse is performed, The rain of detachment from partiality and desire falls, The sapling of the bodhi mind grows, The fruit of the three kayas spontaneously ripens. From the unmade, self-arisen, empty sky, The sun and moon of compassion without bias rise, The stars shine, unblemished by attachment to places, The pure southern clouds gather in the expanse of all appearances, The great sound of the dragon, free from ego-grasping, roars, The wind of the unwavering king of mindfulness blows. This is the place that creates the goodness of us sentient beings, Hail and frost hate this place. If you want to protect, then guard the meaning of this. Ignorance hates the meaning of the natural state with hail. Hail of the ground of all falls on the realm of primordial purity. Hail of habitual patterns hates self-arisen awareness. Hail of phenomena falls on emptiness. Hail of attachment hates the meaning beyond mind. Hail of duality falls on the realm of samadhi. Hail of non-virtue hates the ten virtues. Hail of anger falls on mirror-like wisdom. Hail of pride hates equality wisdom. Hail of desire falls on discriminating wisdom. Hail of jealousy hates accomplishing wisdom. Hail of delusion falls on the wisdom of the dharmadhatu. Hail of ignorance hates the dharmakaya. Hail of self-grasping falls on the sambhogakaya. Hail of wrong views hates the nirmanakaya. Hail of hope and fear falls on the meaning of enlightenment. Hail of the lord of death hates all embodied beings. Hail of aging falls on youthful vigor. Hail of death hates the end of birth. Hail of separation falls on the end of gathering. Hail of exhaustion hates the end of accumulation. Hail of falling hates the end of rising. Hail of miserliness hates those with possessions. For those with land, the hail of desire descends. For undisciplined wisdom, hidden hailstones fall. For those without patience, the hail of anger descends. For those attached to diligence, the hail of laziness falls. For undisciplined wisdom, the hail of delusion descends. For meditators, the hail of habitual tendencies falls. For those who act according to Dharma, the hail of the eight worldly concerns descends. For those who contemplate Dharma, the hail of life falls. For those who enter the Dharma gate, the hail of sectarianism descends. For those without Dharma, the hail of wrong views descends. For those without faith, the hail of wrong views descends. For those with little devotion, the hail of partiality descends. For those attached to this life, the hail of suffering descends. For those who have not accumulated merit, the hail of sin descends. Therefore, regarding these hailstones, if we, who possess leisure and a precious human body, do not protect against hail this time, the seeds of enlightenment and liberation will be destroyed, and as a sign, we will be cast into the abyss of samsara without happiness. If that happens, suffering will be our nature, and because our own head is submerged in negativity, we will be filled with great regret. In that pure land of enlightenment and Dharma, the habitual tendencies of hatred, the hailstones, now with the companionship of a pure human body, with the instructions of the secret mantra Vajra essence, mixing the substances for directly seeing the nature of reality, day and night, like the continuous flow of a river, in the state of bodhicitta without self and other, abide in the deepest state of protecting against hail. Therefore, please accept this with joy. Holy ones, please keep this in your hearts, and immediately offer a small token of appreciation. This was spoken by me, a wandering monk, when the official of Naksho (a Tibetan place name) in retreat, told me to protect against hail and stay in Khamshak (a Tibetan place name).
