Oh, mind, how wonderful! Like the relief from an epidemic, the bliss is, The very nature of the mind's ocean, free from turbidity. Such bliss, the glory of immaculate purity, Even the senses find exceedingly difficult to attain. From the noose of external dependencies that move uncontrollably, Who has experienced the bliss of a liberated mind? Since there is no other experience equal to it, It is the supreme jewel in the world with gods. Like the reflections of the moon and stars in a clear lake, Manifest knowledge and other numerous qualities arise. Taming one's own mind is the basis of all qualities, How can qualities rely on an untamed mind? Therefore, abandoning body and life is very easy, For the sake of lasting benefit, the stream of mindfulness in mind training, No matter what befalls, should not be abandoned, Make your intention and vows unwavering. Initially, with moderate tightness and looseness, gradually, Increasingly diligent, once slightly accustomed, With a mind focused single-pointedly on the object, Strive until you attain calm abiding, free from turbidity. Once accustomed, gradually easier, the wisdom of discerning, The faults and qualities of one's own mind, what to accept and reject, On the level of self-realization on the path, Although attainable in a few months, few are diligent. The four legs of intention, diligence, mind, and discernment, The essence of which is the continuous loop of mindfulness, From the power of stability, in the mirror of one's own mind, Arises the bliss that fills the expanse of the sky. The door of the object is the basis of signs, And focusing on the winds that rely on the body, And subtle symbols, letters, and so forth, Whichever you rely on, accomplishment comes with practice, But in these degenerate times, the coarse wind-mind of afflictions, Like an unruly yak, turbulent and chaotic, By blocking and stopping, it becomes exceedingly agitated. Therefore, many become discouraged and give up. In the relaxed, natural state of the uncorrected mind, Sustain just a little continuous remembrance of its own nature, Even if the winds stir from conceptual thoughts, after that, If you know the method of not following and letting it be, The nature of mind becomes increasingly clear like the sky, Conceptual thoughts become increasingly pacified like hailstones, The ocean of mind, clear, bright, and free from turbidity, Becomes the basis for the qualities of union of calm and insight. Here, in the vast expanse of insightful wisdom, Stability is gradually attained, and calm abiding is naturally accomplished, A supremely blissful path, superior to the path of effort, The qualities of union of calm and insight are naturally accomplished.

।। The essence of awareness is primordially pure, clear light. Even if you don't directly realize it, focus on your own mind within. If you maintain a continuous stream of mindfulness without forgetting, it is the supreme essence of all instructions for accomplishing calm abiding. Having become accustomed to it, the skill of the experience of bliss, clarity, and non-thought arises. Various things appear, and as you draw closer to the natural state of awareness, realization becomes extremely easy. Nowadays, most meditators are only at this level. Even if you directly realize awareness, if you are not accustomed to that state, experiences and appearances will not arise, and you will be the same as ordinary people. You will not be able to transform external circumstances, and you will lack the signs of having meditated. The buddhas have not said that you can attain enlightenment without meditating. Even if you do not directly realize awareness, but are merely accustomed to calm abiding, although you may suppress conceptual thoughts and some qualities may manifest, you will not know the key to the spontaneous liberation of conceptual thoughts. Bound by clinging, you will engage in the root of existence by accepting and rejecting. Therefore, knowing your own nature and stabilizing familiarity with it are the two legs of mental practice. In terms of the meaning of the natural state, in the state of self-arisen clear light, calm abiding and insight are inherently spontaneously accomplished. The great teachers who expound hundreds of sutras and tantras, and most of those who are revered as gurus, do not meditate by placing their own minds at the essential point, so they are not even slightly superior to ordinary people. This wild conceptual thought is also very powerful, and you have not gained the qualities of wisdom and ability. By looking again and again at your own mind, which is like meaningless turbulent waves, generate great weariness. Then, following the profound instructions of the holy ones, with the skillful awareness that tames your own mind, may you quickly attain the desirable state of abundance with the fruits of the two benefits. Among all efforts, the most important is this: applying yourself to taming your own mind. Even the treasure of a vase, a wish-fulfilling jewel, cannot represent the place of great qualities. Therefore, may fortunate ones who understand this meaning well, with great reverence abide in the yoga of the mind, abandoning all activities, with one-pointed mind, may you accomplish the ultimate good goal. This was written by Mipham on the 16th day of the first month of the Wood Dragon year. May it be virtuous! ༈ །། Homage to Manjushri! The method of establishing the faults and qualities of samadhi: Through the power of hearing, generate faith and aspiration. With extremely diligent effort, having abandoned laziness and so on, you should abide in the object of focus. At that time, like the dance of lightning, even if it wavers without staying for a moment, joy
