May the assembly of lineage gurus bestow their blessings! May the deities of peaceful and wrathful forms protect us! May the dakinis and protectors of the three places dispel obstacles! May the supreme path be perfected, and may the two aims be spontaneously accomplished! Fire Bird Year, 11th month, 18th day. Mangalam! The Quintessence of Dzogchen. The entirety of appearance and existence is the realm of Samantabhadra, From the beginning, it is the primordially enlightened Mañjuśrī. Since there is no dharma other than itself, I prostrate in the state of equality, without duality. Leave ordinary consciousness without fabrication. In this very moment of clear awareness, without interruption, There is no need to meditate and seek new clarity. This clear, naked awareness is your own natural state. The essence of clarity, whether internal or external, Is not established, like the expanse of space, without beginning or end. The mere clarity itself naturally abides in emptiness. Do not deceive yourself with fabricated emptiness. Experience the clarity of your own mind for yourself. Experience the unborn clarity as emptiness for yourself. Clarity and emptiness are inseparable, inexpressible, and equal. It cannot be taught by others, but realized by oneself. With the intellect of examination and modification, the questions of thought, When left in their natural state without manipulation and become familiar, The original face of the innate king will be revealed to you. The net of doubt will surely be completely severed. It has always been this way from the beginning, but from beginningless time, Due to the habit of stirring up the turbidity of thought, Even if you leave it, you will not find certainty in what this is, And even if you examine it, it is difficult to see the true nature. Therefore, in order to pacify the waves of thought at the beginning, Look at the water that has not been stirred, allowing the turbidity to clear. With that example, the key is to become skilled at relaxing your own mind in its natural state. The key to the method of leaving it as it is, is to become familiar with it. Leaving it without fabrication is the meaning of the unfabricated ground. If it is naturally clear, that itself is Dzogchen. The discernment of appearance and existence is settled by that alone. Easy to do, great in meaning, traversing to the summit of the vehicle. When the inexpressible awareness is manifested, The grasping of clarity, the grasping of emptiness, the manner of grasping, vanish into the expanse. However it appears, it remains in the innate state. Such is the yoga of the Great Perfection. On the 8th day of the 11th month of the Earth Ox year, Jampal Gyepai Dorje wrote whatever arose. May it be virtuous and auspicious! The Profound Meaning, Practice, Key Secrets, Blissful Path, Vast Teaching. The nature of all is primordially nirvana. Pristine great bliss is inherently unchanging. To the youthful Mañjuśrī, the self-born wisdom, I pay homage by recognizing the ultimate face of reality.

Here, there are a hundred kinds of appearances, impermanent and changing, which are the magical displays of the mind. Apart from the flow of ordinary conceptual thoughts, there is no suffering of samsara whatsoever. Happiness is mind, and suffering is also mind; heaven and hell, gods and demons, good and bad, all are nothing but the magical displays of the mind. Abandon the thought of many years of practice, and cut off the root of everything—one's own mind. If you can recognize the natural state of mind itself, then abide in this adornment of awareness, which is the essence of all instructions. Initially, when conceptual thought arises as an enemy, one thinks of everything but what one should, and thoughts surge like ocean waves. One has no freedom, like a feather carried away by the wind. Fear, suffering, and a hundred doubts intertwine. Even if you wage the great battle of the four maras, it is just this. Even if you invoke gods and demons, in reality, it is just this. Even if it arises from the aggregates, it is the same state. When conceptual thought gains the upper hand, the yogi suffers greatly. Although one knows it is a self-displaying illusion, it is difficult to recognize. Even if one has grasped the key to meditation, it is difficult to endure. Eventually, even if it dissolves on its own, the mind still feels annoyed. When a hundred enemies attack at once, how can one endure? Secondly, when the strength of conceptual thought diminishes, although it wavers and fluctuates, one can endure it. Like the winter wind without force. Weaker than before, conceptual thought gradually subsides. When a slight desire to meditate arises, subduing a hundred demons with the roar of (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ,Sanskrit Devanagari: हुं,Sanskrit Romanization: hūṃ, Literal Meaning: Hum) and (Tibetan: ཕཊ,Sanskrit Devanagari: फट,Sanskrit Romanization: phaṭ, Literal Meaning: Phat), is more significant than killing a hundred enemies with curses. It is more meaningful because the enemy that steals eternal dominion is none other than one's own conceptual thought. Therefore, do not strive to subdue enemies or destroy obstacles, but rather, do not regard the root of the enemy, the king of obstacles—conceptual thought—as an enemy, but let it abide in itself. Arising is self-arising, and dissolving is self-dissolving. If one abides in this natural state, understanding the key to self-pacification and self-dissolution, the yogi will gain a moment of mental rest. Thoughts fly, true and false are indistinguishable, clinging and solid. The force of habituation from beginningless time, the unstoppable surging waves, are like an illusory army. Eventually, they become powerless, like a mirage in the sky. Thirdly, when conceptual thought arises as a friend, whatever arises, one is not too concerned with the advantages and disadvantages of acceptance and rejection. Conceptual thought dissolves into the mind, and the mind becomes calm. Let it come and go, let it stay
