The way to establish it. Homage to Manjushri! The mind that thinks "I" by focusing on the five aggregates of one's own continuum is the clinging to self. The object of its clinging is the self of a person or what is called "I." It only clings to the belief that it exists without being designated or examined, but in reality, it has never been established like a snake on a rope. The five aggregates, which are the basis for the designation of "I," are many and impermanent. The "I" is thought to be permanent, coming here from the past and going to the other side from here, and is unique. It is merely designated on the collection of aggregates, but in reality, it is not established. Therefore, the mind that takes "I" as its object is the clinging to self. The object of its clinging is called "self." Just as there is no snake on a rope, it is only designated as "self" on the aggregates. Understanding that the self is not established by its own nature is the view of selflessness. All phenomena, conditioned and unconditioned, other than what is called "I" or "self," are called "dharmas." Even if one clings to these dharmas as if they truly exist simply because they are pleasing to the mind without examination, when examined with reasoning such as oneness or difference, it is understood that they are not established in any subtle or coarse object and are without foundation or root. This is called the realization of the selflessness of phenomena. Therefore, the object to be refuted, the person and phenomena such as a vase, which are established by their own nature or truly established, are called the self of a person and the self of phenomena. Merely grasping at these two selves due to the delusion of the mind, but if examined, they are not established in the slightest. This is called the selflessness of a person and the selflessness of phenomena. The mind that realizes selflessness in this way is called the realization of selflessness. The two selves that are grasped and the two clingings to self that take them as their objects. In order to uproot these two clingings to self, it is necessary to establish through reasoning that the two objects of clinging, the selves, are not established, and then generate in one's own continuum the realization of selflessness that takes the two selflessnesses as its object. In short, this clinging to self is the root of samsara and the source of all afflictions. Its antidote, the realization of the selflessness of a person, is like the root of the path to liberation. Not only that, but the complete view of emptiness, which understands that all phenomena are not established by their own nature, also eliminates all obscurations to knowledge, and therefore is the root of the Mahayana path.

Until a firm and unwavering conviction arises regarding the inexpressible and great equality of the expanse, one should cultivate the view. Merely negating what is to be negated, a mere eliminative negation, is only the nominal ultimate truth, just a gateway to entering the ultimate truth of characteristics. It is not the ultimate reality. The non-abiding Madhyamaka of union, or the non-nominal ultimate truth, is the reality of the indivisibility of the two truths, to be known individually by one's own awareness, the nature of pacifying all webs of elaboration. In short, within the scope of intellectual analysis, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana appear, yet when examined and analyzed, one becomes certain that not even an atom is established. Through this, all things, where appearance and non-establishment of inherent existence become non-contradictory, are definitely like appearances of water moons, dreams, and illusions. When a correct conviction arises that is similar to the subsequent attainment of illusory conviction, it means that one has a good understanding of the scope of Madhyamaka. However, that alone does not mean one has seen the meaning of the dharmadhatu, the great Madhyamaka free from elaboration, to be known individually by one's own awareness. Therefore, after directly seeing the face of union, which is beyond expression, and in the samadhi free from elaboration, like the sky, where all grasping at conceptualizations of affirmation and negation are extinguished, if a special conviction arises, even if the culmination of the view's analysis through hearing and thinking is said to be only that much, the dharmadhatu, which becomes the object of individual self-awareness, cannot be grasped by merely following sounds and words with outward-looking analysis. Therefore, it is seen as far beyond the scope of anyone else's mind. Based on this, it should be understood that only those who are skilled in the key instructions of the lama and adept at settling the mind can easily generate conviction and thus not deviate from the essential points of the path. This was said by Mipham Rinpoche. If one can practice just the three aspects of abiding, moving, and awareness of Mahamudra, the key to ultimately seeing the truth of dharmata is that the nature of mind possesses the sugatagarbha, and it is due to the power of the key instructions striking the essential point. Thus, since the root of all dharmas lies in the mind, if one seeks the essential point of one's own mind, one will understand all dharmas from the secret of the mind and realize the meaning of selflessness. Therefore, here, one should abandon many logical analyses and rely on the key instructions of realized beings, thereby turning the face inward.
