Thus, the intention of (Maitreya) was made clear. In terms of collections of statements, there are the "Friendly Letter" and the "Precious Garland," among others. In terms of collections of reasoning: the refutation of the belief in true existence by materialist schools, both our own and others, is extensively refuted in the "Root Wisdom." Primarily targeting the views of materialists within our own school, refuting true existence, and taking the "Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning" as the essence of the key points of explaining emptiness as the main body of the two. Derived from the analysis of dependent origination, the refutation of arguments that contradict reasoning for those who assert no inherent existence—the "Refutation of Disputes." Derived from the analysis of the permanence of conditioned phenomena, the refutation of arguments that contradict scripture for those who assert no birth and cessation—the "Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness" as branches of the two. Refuting the reasoning that establishes true existence—the "Finely Woven Analysis" and five other treatises. Some consider that although there is no inherent existence in the ultimate sense, conventional worldly designations can be established, which is called the "Establishment of Designations," and together with the aforementioned five treatises, they are considered the six collections of reasoning. In terms of collections of praise, there are the "Praise of Dharmadhatu" and the "Vajra Heart Praise," among others. Furthermore, the teacher Arya himself composed many treatises on sutras, tantras, and sciences. The Thus-Gone One prophesied that he would attain unsurpassed enlightenment and elucidate many sutras of definitive and provisional meaning. The great master Arya Asanga practiced Maitreya for twelve years, and Maitreya appeared to him, leading him to Tushita heaven and bestowing upon him the king of treatises that explain the intention of the Thus-Gone One—the Five Treatises of Maitreya. From this arose the saying of twenty Dharma treatises related to Maitreya. The five treatises composed by the venerable Maitreya are the "Two Ornaments," the "Two Distinctions," and the "Uttaratantra." The five grounds composed by the great chariot Asanga, and the "Two Compendiums." The eight categories of distinctions composed by the teacher Vasubandhu, who is known as the second omniscient one, are the twenty. The "Five Grounds" refer to the "Ground of Objects," and the "Collected Determinations" which is like an explanation of its meaning, the "Collected Bases" which shows how to collect these into the three baskets, the "Collected Categories" which shows the categories of defilement and purification in detail, and the "Collected Explanations" which shows how to explain them. In the "Ground of Objects," it is said: the mental ground with five consciousnesses, with and without conceptual examination, without conception and without examination, the meditative ground, the non-meditative.
