For example, if one does not understand the statements, one may mistakenly interpret the sounds. Therefore, these treatises on grammar are essential for accurately explaining the definitive words in the scriptures. Sarvartha means "all meanings," but in Tibetan, sometimes Sarva Artha is not connected. This is because it is difficult to fully express the long vowel sounds in Tibetan. If read without connecting, the pronunciation is the same as when connected, so that the sound becomes pure. Words like "Mughal" should be considered in terms of Tibetan pronunciation, such as the saying "na ro mou" in Chinese. If words like cardamom and camphor are read according to their altered pronunciations, it is both convenient and does not affect understanding. For example, "The king should bathe often," and in the "Letter to a Friend," "Worldly wise, whether attained or not," etc. If these are not understood as vocatives, they will be mistakenly understood as other meanings. If one does not truly understand the real meaning of the vocatives in archaic language, even if it roughly corresponds, sometimes it will not, leading to a lack of deep understanding. In most cases, not understanding the usage of words leads to errors. Therefore, treatises like this one, as well as standard Tibetan dictionaries, are teachings that learners must study. More detailed content should be studied in the grand treatises on grammar. The above is a brief statement of the nouns needed in phonetics. The branches of phonetics include prosody, nomenclature, and poetics. Therefore, among the nouns needed in these fields, the first are the nouns needed in poetics: Kavya, poetry; Vacalamkara, verbal embellishment. These are the genres of poetry: Padya, verse; Gadya, prose; Misrakammani, mixed, i.e., verse is four lines. Prose is unsegmented. Dandikah, continuous. The embellishments of poetry have ten qualities: Slesa and Slista, combination; Prasada, clarity; Samata, equality; Madhura, melodious; Sukumarata, very youthful; Arthavyakti, clear meaning; Durdara, vast; Ojah, majestic; Kanti, beautiful; Samadhi, samadhi. The quality of combination is letters.

īthilam and śca-tham, which is relaxation, meaning not touching. The name for relaxation: Komalam, also called softness. The virtue of extreme clarity is that the meaning is widely known and easy to understand. The virtue of equality is that the letters are neither uniformly rough nor predominantly of any one kind, but in an intermediate state. Among these, the letters: mṛdu (Sanskrit: मृदु, mṛdu, meaning: soft), soft. Sphuṭa, paruṣyaṃ, and niṣṭhu are called rough. The virtue of pleasantness is having a delightful flavor. Rasa (Sanskrit: रस, rasa, meaning: flavor) is called flavor. It and the expressive words, as well as the meaning of the expressed object, also have a delightful flavor. In words, grāma-vāca, which are village words, not mixed with it, and anuprāsa (Sanskrit: अनुप्रास, anuprāsa, meaning: following), those with following are beautiful. The virtue of extreme youthfulness is having many letters that are not from the source of roughness. If all letters are pleasant, then vak-bandha (Sanskrit: वाक्बन्ध, vāgbandha, meaning: speech bond) the combination of speech will become a fault of relaxation. The virtue of clear meaning is: without needing to examine the meaning, it is clear and without impurities, like a mirror and paṭa (Sanskrit: पट, paṭa, meaning: cloth). The virtue of vastness is: utkarṣa (Sanskrit: उत्कर्ष, utkarṣa, meaning: excellence), excellence, which is expressing such virtues. Majesty is the appropriate collection of word particles, etc., so that the words are without confusion and the object is pure; this is like food for prose, and for verses, it is mainly accepted by the eastern Indians. The virtue of beauty is that it does not exceed worldly meaning, expressing it as if it falls into the ear, which is suitable for both the wise and the foolish. Expressing it as if it exceeds worldly customs, with a great desire to express, like an outstanding ornament, is also beautiful for the wise; in short, it is words that fall into the ears of others. The virtue of concentration is: expressing the actions of other things, etc., by combining them with other things, and understanding the meaning in accordance with worldly fame. For example, the closing of the eyes of the kumuda and the opening of the eyes of the lotus. For this, one must abandon the ugliness of the way words are combined and express beauty. Thus, these ten virtues are said to be the life force of the poetic path of the southern Indian Vaidarbha. Reversing most of these indicates the path of the eastern Gauda, which can be understood through the examples in the treatise "Mirror of Poetry." The detailed explanation of the virtue of pleasantness, including the remaining meaning, is the second intermediate chapter. The intermediate is thirty-five ornaments of meaning.
