When he went in that direction, with special faith, he manifested the miracle of jumping from the mountain, and by teaching the Dharma, he attained the Arhatship. Cūḍapanthaka: Small Path Demonstrator, and Mahāpanthaka: Great Path Demonstrator, were two brothers. In Shravasti, a Brahmin woman's children kept dying, and an old woman gave her advice. When Small Path Demonstrator was three years old, his body was wrapped in white cloth, made to look like a tree trunk. A container filled with ghee was given to a girl, and she was told to light the cloth on his head on the road where the Buddha would come, and say, "You and the child prostrate." When she offered it in this way, the Buddha and his retinue said, "May the child live long." As soon as they said this, the fire on his head turned into a red flower, and he was freed from the Lord of Death. His parents took him back and had him study the Vedas. The elder brother knew everything, so he was called Great Path Demonstrator. The younger brother, when reciting Om, would forget Bha, etc., and became very dull, so he was called Small Path Demonstrator. He was frustrated with his own dullness, so he asked the Buddha to ordain him and take the full vows. The teacher taught him the two phrases, "Abandon dust, abandon defilement," and had him memorize them. He contemplated and understood their meaning, and attained Arhatship. But because he was dull before, he was not trusted. The medical staff did not invite him to provide shade, and the nuns deliberately made things difficult for him, setting up a very high seat of arrogance. Small Path Demonstrator, possessing miraculous powers, extensively explained the meaning of the two phrases, and everyone was amazed, changing their faith in their hearts, and he was praised as the most excellent. The elder brother, Great Path Demonstrator, was also persuaded by his parents, "Your life is due to the Buddha's kindness, so ordain." He gladly accepted, and after ordaining, he attained Arhatship, and he is the Elder Great Path Demonstrator. Piṇḍola: Alms-taker, was born as the son of the Bharadvaja lineage, who was the leader in Rajagriha. Although he was an uncrowned king, possessing merit, due to the residue of past karma, he was tired of the fact that whatever he ate turned into stone, and he ordained at the teacher's place, and in that instant, he attained Arhatship. He only ate food obtained through alms, so he was called Alms-taker. Once, when the king was coming from the east, he did not rise, etc.
