It is of no use to abandon it. How can it be the nature of all dharmas? It is only a temporary dharma that exists in the self-continuum of sentient beings. It is not the reality of all dharmas, but varies according to the number of different dharmas. If so, then "the emptiness of one," etc., "one thing is the suchness of all things," etc., "front and back," etc., all such statements are meaningless, because such a nature can never exist. Even if a yogi is able to understand it in this way, it is no different from the thought of combining and holding the vase and the emptiness of the vase. Therefore, it is also impossible for it to be the cause of realizing the equality of all dharmas. If the subtle mind transforms into omniscience, it may become larger, wider, and better. Then, how can afflictions not taint it? It is the root of all afflictions, because without it, the gross mind cannot exist. If it is said that "transmigration is the root of samsara," then, is this subtle mind produced under the control of transmigration? Or is it not produced? If it is produced, then how can this non-transmigratory life stream not be interrupted without transmigration? If it is not produced, then it will become an undefiled mind, so why is it necessary to relearn the emptiness that it does not understand? The root of samsara is the subtle mind, not transmigration. Even if it is not transmigration, if its nature is transmigratory, then this contradicts the scriptures. Even if transmigration and obscurations are exhausted, it will still not cease to be the root of samsara, because the compounded mind that produces transmigration and obscurations still exists. Moreover, since it cannot be made to disappear, samsara will never cease. Therefore, the tantras speak of the method of exhausting the three appearances of transmigration and obscurations, but do not teach the method of exhausting the mind that is more subtle than this. If it is said that it is not necessary to exhaust it, because by exhausting transmigration, the mind will become pure, then, is the mind naturally pure or impure? If it is pure, then there is a pure compounded mind, so all sentient beings should be able to realize it, because it is a real compounded thing. If it is impure, then there is no way to purify it. These and other things should be compared with other scriptures for analysis. Furthermore, the innate mind or awareness, as it is said, "Emptiness, selflessness, primordial wisdom, self-awareness, mind," is the innate, all-pervasive awareness that is non-dual with emptiness from the very beginning. Therefore, there is no arising of conceptual thoughts that impute the illusion of grasping and clinging as dualistic, nor will there be.

It is something unknowable. It never deviates from its state, because it is impossible to waver. Although it does not waver, all dualistic phenomena can appear within it, possessing openness. Even when appearing, it does not deviate from its state. A self-sustaining individual has two possibilities regarding their own nature: realization or non-realization, as it is said, "The basis is one, but the paths are two." Even when it manifests, there is no new realization that was not there before. Although it does not deviate from its previous state, the self-sustaining individual, when not recognizing it, does not even know that it merely exists in an unspecified state. When it is first recognized by the wisdom of the mind-consciousness due to the power of the path and conditions, from then on, the clear light will appear as such. During the day, when the eight consciousnesses have not ceased, merely by recognizing it, the clear light of the night will also be grasped by it. When recognized, the eight consciousnesses are also seen as one taste in that nature, and not as different entities. When not recognized, due to the non-appearance of wisdom, only illusions are seen through the function of consciousness. When recognized, everything appears as pure appearances through the function of wisdom. Citing the Pramāṇavārttika, etc., it explains that this is the nature. The method of attainment is not dependent on the method of pressing the winds and mind into the vital points, but recognizing it from now on is a unique characteristic of Dzogchen. Although there are similar things in the empowerment of words, one cannot realize it as it is because there are no instructions. Experiencing it through the instructions of pressing the winds and mind into the vital points is the completion stage with signs of the tantric systems, such as practicing mind isolation. Although both ultimately reach the coemergent wisdom of the meaning to be expressed, there is a great difference in speed. It is difficult to accomplish things like the wind entering the central channel, but this is easy. The difference between having or not having a wrong path is great. Therefore, for manifesting the wisdom of meaning of the unsurpassable yoga, which is like the vajra essence, the pinnacle of all vehicles, there is no other path. Taking it as the path today, taking the channels and drops as the path, and clinging to the wisdom of example with signs as a quick path is like what is said in the tantras: "After finding the elephant, look for the footprints of the elephant; after putting down the jewel, desire the rope." The situation is similar. Even if some experiences of bliss, clarity, and non-conceptuality arise, do not just be the wisdom of example.
