Generally, whatever dharma this conceptual mind thinks of, its appearance manifests as a general meaning. If one becomes accustomed to this, the clear appearance of deities and skeletons will actually arise. When the mind meditates on emptiness and space, etc., which are unconditioned, it appears in that form, which is a mental appearance, but there is never any actual mixing of the unconditioned. Just as the term 'realization' is applied when the mind grasps unconditioned things like space, similarly, the appearance of innate luminosity and emptiness is not the actual wisdom of meaning, but based on it, a transition to the co-emergent wisdom of meaning occurs. Therefore, at the time of directly realizing emptiness, in the face of directly seeing the union of luminosity and emptiness, the nature of union is originally the nature of mind. Therefore, in that nature, without object and subject, all dharmas are realized as being of one taste. However, it is impossible in any way for the insubstantial, unconditioned dharmadhatu and the mind to become of one taste like water mixing with water, because the mind is conditioned. Insubstantial emptiness is unconditioned. Because conditioned and unconditioned have the characteristic of mutually excluding each other, they can never mix like water mixing with water. Therefore, the appearance of conditioned mind and form, etc., and unconditioned space and emptiness, etc., as being different is merely a designation due to the power of conceptualization. But in reality, they are not established as this or that by their own nature. Because all dharmas abide in the dharmadhatu of indivisible appearance and emptiness, each to be realized by one's own wisdom, that state is the very nature of reality. When one directly realizes that there is not even a particle of dharma that deviates from that state, and sees all dharmas as the nature of the dharmadhatu, free from elaboration, then apart from the luminosity of the nature of the dharmadhatu, there are no dualistic dharmas, no self and other, no mind and object, no conditioned and unconditioned, no samsara and nirvana, etc. To call this the dharmadhatu, and the wisdom of the subject and object as being inseparable and of one taste, like water placed in water, is because in the past, being defiled by duality, when the very nature of the dharmadhatu was not realized, it was grasped as being different. Now, without these, in the nature of dharma, abiding in a state where appearance and existence are in harmony, from the perspective of appearance being like mixing, it is merely a description of the way it appears, but the dharmadhatu is originally so.

Realizing the state of abiding without difference from beginning to end, there is no newly added mixture in it. The Dharmadhatu (chos dbyings) is eternally unchanging, without decrease or increase, without arising or ceasing, it is equal. Therefore, the reality of the meaning to be realized, which is the self-luminous nature of the Dharmadhatu (chos dbyings), the self-born wisdom itself is the reality of Dzogchen and Suchness. And the method of introducing and practicing it is called the path of Dzogchen. It is not Dzogchen to introduce the subtle mind as an individual of phenomena, because this is an individual of phenomena. Therefore, although there is a distinction between subtle and coarse minds in name, the coarse is the mind itself with or without conceptualization when the six consciousnesses are not interrupted. The subtle is like the mind consciousness when the five sense consciousnesses dissolve into the mind during sleep. If we follow the five stages of Dharma terms of Nagarjuna, the dissolution of the five sense consciousnesses into the mind is appearance, and it is said that the mind into which it dissolves at this time is the afflicted mind. Then, when the mind dissolves into the non-conceptual Alaya, it is the increase of appearance, and when the Alaya itself dissolves into the ground luminosity, it is called the near attainment of appearance. The experiential appearances in these three situations are like the examples of the moon, sunlight, and darkness. Gradually, the thirty-three conceptualizations arising from hatred, the forty conceptualizations arising from desire, and the seven conceptualizations arising from ignorance will cease, and the yogi expresses the nature of the three minds through his own experience. And in the time of luminosity, there is no eighty self-nature conceptualizations, like the sky free from the three conditions of arousal, that is the Dharma-nature, the innate mind of emptiness and awareness, or the uncreated Vajra mind. This luminous mind is called self-nature coemergent wisdom in the context of Tantra, and Tathagatagarbha in Sutra, or undefiled mind, or purity of mind. This is the Dharma-nature of the mind, so it exists as the coemergent nature of all minds, unchanging like the sky from beginning to end. Therefore, even when the coarse movement of the six consciousnesses and afflictions such as attachment are present, it exists, but it does not have the slightest component of the five aggregates, so it is profound and peaceful.
