If it becomes impermanent because it sometimes appears and sometimes does not appear in the mind due to non-appearance, then emptiness is also like the sky. If it is impermanent because it appears to exist, or because of awareness, or just a little bit of clarity, then emptiness and the sky are also the same. If it does not appear at all, it cannot exist. Conditioned phenomena are not different from impermanent phenomena. If it is said that the nature of reality also follows the existence or non-existence of the cause of conditioned phenomena, since one's own nature, such as arising, is not perceived, it will not become like that. If it is impermanent merely because it follows, then all unconditioned phenomena that follow the existence or non-existence of initial contact and the existence or non-existence of subjects will become like that. If it is said that all appearances are permanent, then all phenomena will become permanent. Who would accept that all appearances are permanent? The appearance of the nature of reality, which has no object of focus, is called permanent. The nature of reality has appearance, and the nature of reality can be focused on because it possesses all kinds of excellence. If it is an appearance that appears without inherent existence, then it does not need to contradict the nature of reality. If the appearance of the nature of reality must negate everything, then it will not appear even in the object of the nature of reality. And so on, examine it. From the primordial luminosity of the original ground of the union of awareness and emptiness, samsara and nirvana appear and dissolve into it. It is unconditioned, so there is no expansion or contraction and no cessation. It is the nature of all phenomena. The tantras and commentaries all say that in its state, all phenomena appear. If there is no unconditioned awareness, then examine where all sentient beings first arise. If it is just emptiness, then sentient beings will arise without a cause from a state of nothingness. If a conditioned mind arises from a similar moment from beginningless time, then examine what the nature of that extremely subtle, ultimate moment of mind is, what its retinue is, whether it is mind or intellect, etc. If the eight consciousnesses arise from that subtle one, then one must also explain the reasoning that the eight consciousnesses do not cut off its continuity. Since there is one such moment of mind in the continuum of each sentient being, if one learns and understands emptiness in relation to it, how it does not become subtle. What is the meaning of subtle? What is it that does not cease from then on? Even if it is empty, it is not the nature of all phenomena, etc. Even if it is related to its emptiness, emptiness is of no benefit because the conditioned phenomenon is the cause. The genus must also be it, and the Dharmakaya must also be it, so all of these will become conditioned phenomena, etc., examine it.

Regarding the ālaya-vijñāna, it is said to have objects, aspects, and so on. Since this is not the ālaya-vijñāna, there is fundamentally no scriptural basis for demonstrating its objects, aspects, and so on. Rigpa (awareness) is not a mental factor, not a conditioned phenomenon; it is to be distinguished as fundamentally not being feeling, perception, and so on. Even in daytime appearances, although mind and its dharmatā are inseparable, one does not recognize it, so even if one searches, wisdom does not arise. When the extremely subtle wind-mind dissolves into luminosity, one experiences a state of mindlessness, like the ālaya-vijñāna being a dark, black mirror. When the sun of wisdom rises, one recognizes that luminosity. In the state of non-separation of luminosity, due to the movement of the extremely subtle wind-mind, the illusory body of the three appearances and five lights is formed. Although it is a conditioned phenomenon, one realizes that it does not move from the unconditioned dharmadhātu. This unconditioned dharmatā, rigpa-śūnyatā, is not an unconditioned phenomenon that is non-existent. It is a great unconditioned phenomenon that transcends the extremes of existence and non-existence. From this, the twenty-three unions of the five stages are drawn. The chapter on the unchanging supreme Kālacakra is drawn. To this, names such as all-pervading space vajradhara, mind vajra, co-emergent great bliss, etc., are given. As said in the Hevajra Tantra: "From me, the three places also arise." And so on. As said in the Mahāmāyā Tantra: "Arising vajra great lineage." And so on. As said in the Cakrasaṃvara Tantra: "This is the self-born Bhagavan, the only one." And so on. As said in the Kunjed Gyalpo Tantra: "Kunjed Gyalpo made all, did not make one. Dharmatā bodhicitta, no need to make." And so on. Furthermore, the way the basis of rigpa-śūnyatā, primordial purity, is not mistaken is explained like in Dzogchen. This combines the way of nakedly explaining the meaning of all mantras. It explains how, from the power of primordial great luminosity rigpa itself, due to the aspect of having appearing wisdom, it appears as the basis of all appearances such as wind, light, five, etc. If all sentient beings have a continuous stream of subtle mind, a momentary stream that never ceases from beginning to end, then that becomes the self of the person, that is, the self with the nature of impermanence. The Sugata-garbha is the great self spoken of to pacify the self and non-self elaborations, that is, the reality of all dharmas, in which there is nothing to be fixated on as self. If it is said that the moment is empty, therefore it is non-existent, then even if it is empty in the ultimate sense, the moment is never not.
