All phenomena of time and direction, although appearing as three: arising, abiding, and ceasing, do not transcend these, because there are no phenomena apart from the Dharmadhatu. As it is said. The Dharmadhatu is the nature of reality that abides naturally, whether realized or not. This is called the Buddha-nature. If this great equality of reality, which has the name of lineage during the time of sentient beings, becomes manifest, it becomes Buddhahood itself. There is no possibility of becoming a Hearer or Solitary Realizer, so it is called the unique Buddha-nature. As it is said in the chapter of Sadāparibhūta of the Lotus Sutra: "Realizing equality is becoming a Buddha. That is also one," and so on. As it is said. At the time when the luminosity of the three appearances dawns, the cause of the dawning is the primordial nature of reality. After it dawns, if there is no eightfold consciousness to recognize it, then who is it? It is thought to be self-born wisdom. By the power of experiencing such a nature of reality that is without the characteristics of grasping and being grasped, in the subsequent attainment, there is undeniable certainty in severing the imputations and deprecations on the inconceivable meaning of reality. At that time, the mind of the experiencer and the luminosity of the experienced are non-dual, and the experience of the self-luminous, without beginning or end, dawns. That is the wisdom that has become the self-resonance of primordial luminosity. It is not the wisdom of the wheel of mind-consciousness. For if there is no mind, how can there be co-emergent wisdom that is concordant with it? There is none. The co-emergent wisdom of the wheel of mind-consciousness must necessarily arise from four conditions, so it is fabricated, how could it be self-born? This has no four conditions. There is no condition of the characteristic of the object of focus, no immediately preceding condition that has become one's own immediately preceding condition, no causal condition such as similar potential, and no four conditions of the agent cause that can be examined. Since there is no mind that is different from the nature of reality of the object, there is no object-condition. Since there is none of that, there are no causal conditions, etc. For those, if one slightly focuses on the characteristics of the difference between object and subject, it may be possible for it to exist in that way. However, since there is no slight focus there, there is no term for four conditions. Therefore, although it is non-dual with the ground self-born wisdom, in terms of aspect, the ground is clearly self-luminous as it is, and the term "experience" is applied, but there is no substantial difference between the experienced and the experiencer. So, the self-resonance of luminosity is self-born wisdom.

If so, wouldn't ordinary beings who haven't strived on the path effortlessly grasp the clear light from such a level? They don't grasp it, because the basic (གཞི) self-originated wisdom's own radiance, by nature, inherently possesses the ability to manifest wisdom. However, due to being suppressed by the thick veil of delusion, at the moment of abiding on the ground (གཞི), due to the power of the obscuration, the clear light is not seen. Therefore, this state of mindlessness becomes like a faint, without knowing or remembering anything. Therefore, it's like saying that even when the clear light dawns during deep sleep, it cannot be recognized. The so-called dawning doesn't mean that the clear light alone doesn't cease, but rather that the cessation of the eight consciousnesses is called dawning. The cause of dawning is the clear light or the ground (གཞི) itself. Although there's no saying of dawning upon whom, the term dawning is merely applied to the being who, being in a state of deep sleep, has descended into that state. Those who say the clear light hasn't dawned think that because they haven't recognized it, it has become unpredictable, like thinking that a vase in a dark room hasn't dawned in anyone's eyes, so they say the clear light hasn't dawned. Although it's said that the clear light dawns at the time of dawning for yogis, the clear light doesn't cease for ordinary people during deep sleep, etc., even if they aren't yogis. Therefore, there is clear light at the time of yogic recognition, and it's not that there is no basic (གཞི) clear light at that time for others. Therefore, although these two statements are different, everyone must acknowledge the fact as it is. Then, since there is no knowing mind at that time, isn't it impossible for yogis to recognize it even through the power of the path? No, whether it's the sutra or tantra path, it's based on the certainty of the inseparability of the two truths and the nature of the ground (གཞི), and through the power of the experience arising from meditation, the power of eliminating the veil of delusion on the ground (གཞི), at that time, the radiance of wisdom can recognize it. According to the liberation path of tantra, when the eight consciousnesses haven't ceased, through the mind's consciousness, experiencing the nature of one's own mind as the union of clarity and emptiness, one can realize that the mind itself is clarity and emptiness, beyond thought. By becoming accustomed to this, even without specifically meditating on mind isolation, etc., one can recognize the clear light during deep sleep and at the time of death. At the time of realizing the nature of clarity and emptiness, all the consciousnesses of the eight or six aggregates, represented by conceptual and non-conceptual mind, transform into the nature of pure wisdom.
