Then both will be newly accomplished from the cause. If you think that clear light is not newly accomplished, but the illusory body is newly accomplished, then clear light is the emptiness that has all aspects, the emptiness that possesses all perfections, because it is not a mere ordinary emptiness. Therefore, its appearance, the appearance of clear light, will also not be newly accomplished. If clear light has no appearance, then when ultimate clear light arises, there should be no appearance and no awareness, which is impossible. If it were possible, it would become a state of no-mind, which no one could know. If that mind is known by another mind, it contradicts the statement that all eight consciousnesses cease. Furthermore, it is clear that even when clear light arises for a yogi on the path, the signs do not need to cease, because they are practiced during the path. Furthermore, it is known that appearances do not cease for the Buddhas. Are clear light and appearance contradictory or not contradictory in all aspects? If they are contradictory, then it cannot be the nature of all phenomena. When it arises, no appearance will arise. When there is appearance, it will not arise, like hot and cold sensations. Then, when ultimate clear light arises, isn't it said that there is no conceptualization of the eighty natures and their objects? Yes, it is. But there, both the appearance and the grasping produced by impure wind-mind are absent. However, the pure self-appearance arising without grasping is present, because it is like writing down the emptiness that possesses all perfections. During the stages of experience on the path, various experiences of non-appearance and appearance may arise, but that is not the meaning of illusory light union, but rather alternating. If it is not like that, and the self-knowing wisdom of the dharmata is not accepted, but the dharmata must be taken as an object and known by another conditioned mind, then dualistic appearance will not subside, and the dharmata will not become one taste even at the state of Buddhahood, and that mind that takes the dharmata as an object will never return, so it is impossible for dualistic appearance to subside. Furthermore, if that mind naturally realizes the dharmata, then all sentient beings will become those who have realized emptiness from the beginning. If one does not know oneself and must be taught anew by others, then it is like newly entering school. In the past, one must establish the argument that there was no teaching of other conceptualizations such as grasping at self. In particular, it is possible to teach the apprehension of non-affirming negation that has the sphere of conceptual activity.

Then what else is there to learn? If, like the sky devoid of the three—giver, giving, and receiver—nothing can be ascertained, then even if emptiness is studied, it will not be understood. If that and the coarse mind that ascertains emptiness are one continuum, then even if the eight consciousnesses cease, one will still meditate on emptiness. If they are not one, then the study of the coarse mind cannot be applied to it. Although the subtle mind is when coarse appearances vanish after obtaining the clarity of samadhi, even if it is a continuum of mind, it will not be present in the ultimate nature of luminosity. Is that sky devoid of the three—giver, giving, and receiver—a sky without knowledge or with knowledge? Is it non-material and non-cognitive, one of the three formations, or unconditioned? Is it emptiness or not? If it is, then there is no need for new meditation. If not, then examine what use it is, what it accomplishes, and so on. Therefore, the sky devoid of conditions is merely an analogy for the nature that is difficult to represent, the naked wisdom of awareness and emptiness, where subtle and coarse thoughts cease. It represents being untainted by the three—appearance, increase, and attainment—but above that, subject and object must not be made distinct. If it is not itself the nature of luminosity, but requires another condition to transform it into luminosity, then what is the nature of the ground luminosity? Because it cannot be established, it will become utterly nonexistent, and therefore cannot be coemergent. If you say that the ground luminosity is not the nature of luminosity, then where do all phenomena dissolve, and the luminosity that appears from what will utterly vanish, and it cannot be coemergent, but will become newly fabricated. In that case, it is not the path of practice because the ground luminosity is recognized, but a path called luminosity will be newly practiced, like the cessation attainment. Emptiness is also the same as that; until it is not fabricated by the mind, if the luminosity of the mantra path arises, the meditation on emptiness is meaningless, and the same is true for the noble path of equipoise. Until it is not fabricated by the mind, it is not reasonable to assert that emptiness is coemergent with phenomena. If you think that even if it exists, it is useless without being meditated upon by the mind, then even without a meditator and something to be meditated upon, when the union of awareness and emptiness, the nature of phenomena, arises, there is no need to meditate with the mind, because it is naturally clear. When it has not arisen, it is meditated upon by conceptual mind. By meditating on mere negation, emptiness reaches the ultimate.
