Because of not understanding. The nature of reality has no cause, therefore it is not impermanent. As it says in the Vajra Heart Commentary: Even if a vase is destroyed, the sky will not be destroyed. Similarly, even if the mind is destroyed, wisdom will not be destroyed. And as it says in the Condensed Empowerment: Just as the impurities of copper are removed by the combination of essences, but the existence of the copper itself does not disappear, the stainless nature truly remains. Similarly, the impurities of the mind are completely removed by the combination of emptiness, but the wisdom itself does not disappear, the stainless nature truly remains. It is said using the example of gold-transforming medicine. This is not only said in mantra, but also in the common Mahayana. As it says in the Sutra of Inexhaustible Intelligence: Consciousness is impermanent, wisdom is permanent. And as it says in the Avatamsaka Sutra: In many world realms, even if inconceivable words are spoken, the sky will not be destroyed, the self-born wisdom is the same. And as it says in the Manjushri's Play: Sister, for example, even if fire burns in any sky, the sky cannot be burned by that fire. Sister, similarly, for anything that is naturally luminous, even if temporary afflictions arise, that which is naturally luminous cannot be completely defiled by those temporary afflictions. And as the Protector Maitreya also said: Whatever is the nature of the mind, which is clear light, that is unchanging like the sky. And so on. Therefore, as long as there is mind, the self-luminous nature of reality, self-born wisdom, is the nature of that mind. Because the mind is established as the union of clarity and emptiness, there cannot be a mind that is only emptiness or only clarity. For the yogis who realize the nature of the mind, all eight aggregates of consciousness also appear as wisdom. There cannot be a mind that is different from the nature of reality, because if there were, it would not become dharma and the nature of reality. It can also be established by reason, because when examined with the wisdom of ultimate truth, it is impossible to find any other dharma other than emptiness. Similarly, for the noble ones who realize the suchness of the nature of reality, they do not see any dharma that is different from the nature of reality. As it says in the Bodhisattva Pitaka: All dharmas are equal in equality.

Unedited. The self-born one realizes it accordingly. Therefore, truly manifests enlightenment. The Thus-gone One sees equally. Thus it is said. From the Sutra of Teaching the Aspects of Enlightenment: Manjushri, whoever sees all dharmas as not unequal and without duality, and without duality to be made, this is the correct view. Thus it is said. From Generating the Power of Faith: From the nature of afflictions, there is no other wisdom; the very nature of afflictions is wisdom. Thus it is said. From the Sutra Requested by Akashagarbha: Consciousness and wisdom are seen as equal, Conditioned does not abide, unconditioned neither. Seeing the minds of beings as like illusions, That is the bodhisattva's unfabricated conduct. Thus it is said. All dharmas are Buddhas. Whoever knows the true nature, those things do not perish, nor do they abide in things. Thus it is said. In the Essence Teaching: Knowing that the nature of mind is luminous, therefore, with the wisdom of a single moment of mind, it is called manifesting unsurpassable, perfectly complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. The Hearers are those who follow the sound of liberation. The Solitary Buddhas are born from reliance. The liberation of all Buddhas, mothers and sons, is beyond attachment, surpassing immaculate space. Mind has never been bound from the beginning, these mind streams are naturally liberated. How liberation is, thus truly know, Having known, there is no loss of liberation. Thus it is said. From the Samadhi of the Buddha Presently Abiding Manifestly: Buddha's enlightenment is measured by mind, Mind is also pure, its nature is luminous, Immaculate, unmixed with all sentient beings, Whoever knows this attains supreme enlightenment. Thus it is said. From the Samadhiraja Sutra: By knowing the nature of mind, wisdom will arise again. Thus it is said. Essence emptiness, nature luminosity. Selfless dharmas, by this truly knowing, For that one, there is never any precept change, Thus that one truly ascertains realization. Thus it is said. From the Manjushri Play Sutra: Manjushri, all sentient beings' afflictions abide in wisdom and liberation, and abide in the realm of dharma; those also are unborn.
