However, it is not always the case that it serves as the basis for life and wisdom like a coarse body. Like an emanation body, a dog's head can also appear as a lion, etc. The body of a Buddha is not a proximate cause either, but merely a means of entering into it by way of symbolizing the pure illusory body, just a path for manifesting the wisdom of the appearance of meaning. If, like those who hold the doctrine that the form body of a Buddha is solely a ripened result, one does not need the cause of accumulating merit, but the five winds of an ordinary body are the cause, and the body is fashioned like a clay pot, then it would be too extreme if that body itself became a form body. If one acknowledges that the state of union of the two bodies from the beginning is the ripened result, then there is no fault, because the Buddha who is naturally complete with the two great accumulations is already present from the beginning, and is merely manifested through the path. That body of wind and mind, and the yoga of experiencing the innate clear light as an example, even when the eight consciousnesses have not ceased, the clear light of subsequent cognition can be maintained for a long time. When practicing the body, one enters into clear light for each moment, and the body appears. If one wants to hold onto the clear light for a long time, it will also appear. If it arises in an instant and one wants to hold onto the illusory body for a long time, it will also appear, due to the power of being accustomed to samadhi. When shamatha is accomplished, if one sits without thinking of anything, even though an experience like the cessation of thoughts, like the sky, may appear, it is not the same as the clear light at the end of the three realms, because of the key point of not seeking the clear light of meaning. Non-conceptuality is no different. Thus, the state of the four clear lights is the coemergent state of all dharmas, and all dharmas become of one taste in it, and it is not temporary. If it is not like that, it is not permissible for the clear light of meaning to be compounded or uncompounded by negation, because both of those would become temporary dharmas, and would not be able to become the nature of all dharmas. There must be a mind that meditates on clear light, so it must be held to be subtle mind and impermanent. If that is the case, then that mere mind does not have the capacity to realize the nature of reality, so thinking that one will meditate on emptiness with it is laughable. If the innate mind does not exist at all times, then it cannot be the innate mind. Even if it exists, if it does not become clear light until one newly meditates on emptiness, then clear light cannot be coemergent, but is temporary.
