It is not the ultimate truth to be established. The nature of the eight consciousnesses, the innate wisdom of awareness and emptiness, which is self-arisen and unconditioned, is the luminous mind to be recognized. The mandala of the mind is naturally luminous, and this is the suchness of the secret mantra. The liberating path, the oral instructions of the guru, is what needs to be recognized as the meaning of the four empowerments. In the path of means, the co-emergent meaning that arises from the signs of the wind and mind entering the central channel is also this. Those who understand the momentary conditioned mind and the newly fabricated emptiness as the wisdom of meaning are showing the likeness of not realizing awareness because they lack the oral instructions of the guru. Those who do not realize the co-emergent meaning of awareness through the oral instructions of the guru, in the minds of all, although emptiness is unconditioned, if they think that there is no other option than conditioned clarity, awareness, and bliss, this is solely due to not realizing the union of reality. Here, if "clarity and awareness" are fixated on as characteristics, then they may be conditioned. However, even if the words "emptiness and clarity" are spoken, since there is not even a subtle fixation on the characteristics of their difference, there is no basis for imputing conditionedness to the primordially pure awareness that is undifferentiated and without characteristics. If such a union is not realized, then saying "clarity" only brings to mind conditionedness, and saying "emptiness" only brings to mind insubstantiality. Saying "union" is only understood as a gathering of substantial and insubstantial, and not as a single taste. Therefore, suchness is grasped as mere emptiness and insubstantiality, and the knower is understood as a conditioned mind. Even when explaining emptiness in the sutras, they explain it in that way. Even when explaining co-emergence and luminosity in the tantras, it is only a difference in the means of the path, but ultimately, there is no way to extract even a speck of dust from the above meaning. These beings, regarding suchness as beyond the extremes of substantial and insubstantial, are unable to generate even a slight understanding until the very end of death, as is clearly stated in their own treatises. Thus, when awareness is realized, it is decisively determined to be unconditioned. The Tantra of the Great Clarity of Meaning Beyond Proliferation states: "The self-arisen awareness, the Dharmakaya, because it is not established as the nature of anything, cuts off doubt about characteristics and conditionedness." And: "In the self-arisen wisdom of the Dharmakaya,

Because there is no fabrication, it is not compounded. Thus it is said, this is called the mind of innate nature. From the aspect of self-luminosity, although it is indicated by the name of mind or awareness, it is not the mind that is included by the compounded eight consciousnesses. As it is said in the Dzogchen Definitive Meaning Gathering Tantra: "Without before or after, the self-born body, not born from mind is the Buddha, without change, free from suffering." And also, "Now listen to the essence of the gathering, the special definitive meaning Buddha, because there is no alaya, there is no appearance, therefore this mindless awareness, not born from mind is the Buddha, surpassing the teachings of the nine vehicles." And also, "Because there are no eight consciousnesses, it is separate from mind, the self-born essence is the Dharmakaya." Thus it is said, the indivisibility of space and wisdom, each in its own state of self-awareness, because there is no changing mind that holds various habitual tendencies, how can there be the alaya consciousness? Because there are no external six objects, no internal mind that grasps at self, and not even a slight sign that is its object, how can there be the five sense consciousnesses, mind, and afflicted mind? Like that, since no external or internal signs can be determined, like the sky, although emptiness is seen nakedly and self-luminous, there is not even a speck of a basis for focusing on the nature of clarity and awareness, so it cannot be said from what cause it arose, or by what condition it was produced, therefore it is the self-born, primordial emptiness, great luminosity, therefore it is self-born wisdom. This is the mind of Dharma-nature or luminous wisdom. Even if those without instructions do not believe it, it is not that there is no such Dharma-nature awareness. Not only in mantra, but also in the common vehicle. In the Ornament of the Sutras, it is said: "Dharma-nature is other than mind, other mind is not luminosity, it is said to be self-nature." And in the Uttaratantra, it is said: "Whatever is the self-nature of mind, luminosity, it is unchanging like the sky." And so on. Thus it is said, the Tathagatagarbha is also said to refer to this luminous mind. From the Dzogchen Definitive Meaning Gathering Tantra: "Because the mind has three times, in life there is past, future, and present. Because the mind has change, therefore the body has birth.
