The innate mind is the emptiness of dharmata, and in terms of its nature not falling into empty vacuity, it is the mind of clear light and is called self-arisen wisdom. Since emptiness is merely self-illuminating, without even the slightest mark of conditioned or unconditioned phenomena, it transcends the clear and cognitive consciousness composed of particles and characterized by grasping and being grasped. It is to be realized by the self-cognizance of individual awareness that sees suchness, and it has nothing to do with the eight consciousnesses. This dharmata of the union of awareness and emptiness has no conceptualization or grasping of characteristics, so it abides in the equality of non-conceptualization. Therefore, it has no marks of duality such as samsara and nirvana, delusion and liberation, self and other, beginning and end. As it is said in the tantra of Hevajra and Birwapa's "Extremely Unelaborate": "This has no beginning, no middle, no end," etc. This is the suchness of mind. Although such a state of dharmata does not move at all, when the appearance of conceptualization accompanied by wind arises from the sudden display of potential, the mind with dualistic appearance transforms, and from grasping "I" as real, the eight aggregates of consciousness arise, which are called mind. Because of clinging to things and not realizing the innate suchness, the deluded cycle of dualistic appearance arises, and one wanders in the flow of dependent origination. The unerring Mahayana path, when seeing the meaning of the innate, realizes dharmata, and the habitual tendencies of dualistic delusion are exhausted, which is called Buddhahood. Therefore, the innate dharmata, the reality of nature, abides unchanging in the three times, and is referred to by various names such as innate mind, clear light mind, bodhicitta, dharmadhatu, self-arisen ground-abiding wisdom, coemergent great bliss, and dharmata suchness. In this way, the minds of all sentient beings exist in the manner of dharmata, and when they are in a state where obscurations can be removed, they are called tathagatagarbha, because realizing the dharmata of mind leads to Buddhahood. Similarly, one should understand the way of designating innate mind, etc. The Kalachakra says, "Emptiness that is not foolish," which means the meaning of being inseparable from the clear light wisdom that is not empty vacuity. Conditioned and unconditioned

The edge of is beyond. In the suchness of things, emptiness that abandons luminosity is not the goal, and after abandoning emptiness, the goal of the luminous mind does not exist. If these two are realized in the realm of individual self-awareness that realizes suchness, then it is realized as non-dual. If it is not realized, then only the realm of understanding arises in the mind, with emptiness as the object that cuts off what is to be refuted from the opposite perspective, and knowledge with characteristics as the subject. This does not go beyond the dualistic appearance of the conceptual realm, which holds phenomena with characteristics as real and unreal. Therefore, this is not suchness. If the innate mind of suchness is manifested, then real and unreal, empty and not empty, etc., all dualistic dharmas are beyond the realm of activity, because it is the non-dual nature of reality that each individual must realize for themselves. Therefore, dividing it into emptiness, luminosity, rig-tong (awareness-emptiness), nang-tong (appearance-emptiness), etc., is merely expressing the state of not dwelling on one side by subsequent conceptual thought. In the essence of suchness, there is no duality. Similarly, object and subject, etc., all dualistic dharmas are also transcendent. The non-dual mind of enlightenment is: the nature of mind is the dharmadhatu, vast as the sky, etc., as quoted above. It is manifested by yogis relying on the key instructions of skillful means and liberation, and is not the object of analysis by speculative intellect. Therefore, those who have determined that their own mind is unborn can generate faith. If the conditioned mind merely takes unconditioned, pure emptiness as its object and considers it to be suchness, that is just childish cleverness. Because even the similarity of individual self-awareness has not arisen, nothing other than that can arise in the mind, and thus they create sectarian views of conceptual thought to mislead others. Therefore, abandon seeking that direction, and listen to the profound oral transmission instructions from the realized masters who pursue the Mahamudra and Dzogchen lineages. In short, since one's own mind is originally unborn, it transcends all elaborations of reality and names, and although it is emptiness, it is merely a momentary cessation of the flow of awareness, and it is not a simple emptiness, nor is there a difference between it and the mind that knows it. Mind itself is empty, emptiness itself is luminous, luminosity and emptiness are inseparable, the conceptual thought of grasping and holding is completely non-existent, and such a nature of reality that is naturally so from the beginning is called the innate mind.
