In the explanation of the four determinations of the generation stage, here it is shown that the object of the four, such as warmth, is sentient beings. Previously, the focus was on the realization of meditative equipoise, so the object of warmth and so on was distinguished by emptiness. Here, the focus is on post-meditation, so the object of compassion is set as sentient beings. That is to say, after becoming accustomed to emptiness in meditative equipoise, the power of compassion and the engagement in benefiting others will greatly increase in post-meditation, like this: In the small stage of warmth, one does not discriminate against all sentient beings with attachment and aversion, and arises with an equal mind of compassion; now one wants to benefit sentient beings, and arises with a loving mind. In the intermediate stage of warmth, the mind of benefiting others, wanting to accomplish future benefits, and the mind of not being angry at the happiness of others because of destroying one's own pride, and the mind of non-harming, not harming others, these three minds arise. In the great post-meditation of warmth, towards men and women older than oneself, one arises with a mind like that of parents; towards those of the same age, one arises with a mind like that of siblings; towards the young, one arises with a mind like that of children; towards friends who help oneself and trusted companions, one arises with a mind of friendship; towards relatives with the same paternal lineage and relatives with the same maternal lineage, one arises with a mind of kinship, these five pairs of minds arise. The object of the small peak is focused on sentient beings, and for their sake, one abstains from evil and places others on the path of liberation, acting with body, praising with speech, and complying with mind. In the intermediate stage, one abides in generosity and other virtues, and places others in these virtues, and so on. In the great stage, one abides in the meaning of emptiness and profound dependent origination, and places others in this, and so on. In the small stage of forbearance, one abides in the place of knowing the four truths, abandoning afflictions, and manifesting realization, and places others in this, praising and complying. In the intermediate stage, one knows how to achieve the fruits of stream-entry and so on, but does not manifest it, abiding in this, and placing others in these sentient beings, and so on. In the great stage, one abides in the lineage or method of generating the bodhisattva's path of seeing, and places others in this, and so on. In the small stage of the supreme dharma, one abides in wanting to ripen sentient beings and purify the Buddha-field, and places others in this, and so on. In the intermediate stage, one abides in generating the bodhisattva's direct perception, and places others in this, and so on. In the great stage, one generates

I abide in abandoning the connection of habitual tendencies, and also offer with my body in that manner, praise with my speech, and accord with my mind. From the special increase of wisdom and compassion, the appearance of such great and small qualities is established through the principal means. Such extensive teachings are, in this context, with one verse such as "In this Buddha Vehicle, certainly..." Those not explicitly stated, such as cultivating the mind and the perception of parents, are taken up through benefiting others. With the phrase "Wishing to arise certainly in this Buddha Vehicle," it implicitly shows establishing others by abiding in the path and the ten virtues for oneself. Now, from the perspective of an individual practicing application, I will explain the distinction of obtaining the sign of irreversibility. The individual with the sign is one who abides in any of the four paths of application, the path of seeing, or the path of meditation. Generally, since sharp faculties proceed from the path of accumulation without straying from the path, there are irreversible ones from that time as well. In particular, although one is certain to be irreversible after obtaining the peak of the Great Vehicle's path or forbearance, here it is established from the sign of irreversibility, from which one can ascertain irreversibility. If oneself and others cannot ascertain from the aspect of the sign, then although one is actually irreversible, one does not obtain the name because one has not found the cause for establishing irreversibility. Therefore, sharp faculties are from the heat stage, intermediate ones from the path of seeing, and no matter how dull the faculties, one is certain to obtain the sign from the eighth ground. Therefore, these signs from the heat stage to the eighth ground are explained. Likewise, the sutra says, "A Bodhisattva endowed with those forms, signs, and characteristics should be regarded as irreversible." The form is like the heat and red flame of fire, that is, seeing the special qualities of that Bodhisattva's continuum. The sign is the result, like knowing fire from smoke, that is, the result of having special qualities in that continuum, such as establishing truthful words. The characteristic is inferring from the cause, that is, holding the characteristic of obtaining special qualities in the future. For example, like knowing that fire will certainly arise from the collection of firewood, flint, sparks, and human effort. If one thinks that the cause may be obstructed, so one cannot infer the result from the cause alone, then although that is generally true, the external and internal
