It should be called possessing, that is, knowing that all dharmas abide in equality. Thus, all the dharmas of the basis, path, and result are completely understood to be without self-nature and of one taste in equality. Such is the practice of the supreme Prajnaparamita. Second, in the category of the middle, the place of how to learn is shown. Thus, Prajnaparamita itself, which is worthy of being learned, is identified. Based on that, merit is accumulated. There are four ways to generate its nature in one's own mindstream. Among them, the first is the way of non-abiding, and the way of explaining how to learn from it. The first is to explain the abiding of non-abiding, and the benefits of it. The first is meaning and metaphor. The first is non-abiding in the differentiated base form, etc., and non-abiding in the differentiated dharma impermanence, etc. First, whoever does not abide in form, etc., one verse, whoever does not abide in the way of focusing on form, and likewise does not abide in feeling, whoever does not abide in thought and does not abide in action, does not abide in what consciousness, that is abiding in the dharma-nature of those without object, such is the practice of the supreme Prajnaparamita. Second, constant and impermanent, etc., one verse, in addition, in the dharmas such as form, in constant and impermanent, and happiness and suffering, and agreeable and disagreeable, and self and selfless, and grasping as suchness and grasping as such emptiness, etc., neither of the two extremes and the grasping of discrimination do not abide in anything, and also do not abide in the three fruits obtained such as the stream entry fruit and the Arhat ground with the thought of grasping them, and also do not abide in the solitary realizer ground and such Buddha ground, in short, do not abide in any dharma of the base, path, and result with obvious attachment. Second, metaphor. How to guide, etc., one verse, the metaphor of not abiding in any dharma is how the mind of the guide, the Buddha Bhagavan, does not abide in the unconditioned realm, that is, the realm of peace and Nirvana, and likewise does not abide in the conditioned three realms of samsara, that is, on any side of existence and peace.

Thus, acting without a place to abide, the bodhisattva does not dwell with attachment in any place of knowable things, and not dwelling there is abiding in that which has no place to abide. Such a principle is said by the Dharma King, the Tathagata, to be the most excellent of all abodes. Second, the benefits. "Those who are Sugatas," etc., is one verse. Thus, one cannot attain enlightenment by dwelling with manifest attachment to all phenomena of the basis, path, and aspects, and with clinging. The three enlightenments are attained by relying on non-attachment. That is, those who wish to become hearers of the Sugata, as well as solitary realizers, and likewise those who wish to become Buddhas, the Dharma Kings—in short, whichever of the three enlightenments one desires—without relying on this path of forbearance in the meaning of non-abiding or non-attachment, those fruits cannot be attained. For example, just as without relying on a boat, one cannot see the shores of going to and fro across the ocean. Thus, as much as the forbearance of realizing without clinging to the nature of the self of the person and the self of phenomena arises, the three enlightenments arise in proportion to that. That is, by realizing the distinction of emptiness, realizing the selflessness of the person, one attains the enlightenment of the hearers; by realizing half of the selflessness, one attains the enlightenment of the solitary realizer; and by realizing the ultimate equality of both selflessnesses completely, one attains the enlightenment of the Buddha. Thus, all of those arise from the power of the Prajnaparamita. Therefore, it is said that the path of the three vehicles arises extensively from this Prajnaparamita. Also, in other sutras, it is said that if one who has entered the stream boasts, "I have attained the fruit of entering the stream," then that very thing will become an object of clinging. Also, the nature of the three doors of liberation is emptiness. Hearers, lacking skillful means and being of inferior intellect, do not realize it as it is for a while with a temporary notion, and although they manifest an inferior nirvana, they will eventually realize equality as it is and become Buddhas. Therefore, in the end, it is taught as one vehicle. And just as the Prajnaparamita Sutra shows the three distinctions of the basis knowledge, the path knowledge, and the all-knowing knowledge from oneself, so too is it clearly explained in the treatises of the bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis, such as Maitreya. In general, clinging
