Wherever it is, that is the very place of completely pure fruition. Thus, in general, it is shown. Furthermore, with regard to the purity of the Hearers, it is shown that there is no difference between the purity of the three poisons and the purity of form, etc. For the Solitary Realizers, in addition to that, when showing purity by one aspect of the obscuration of knowledge, the purity of form, the purity of fruition, the purity of fruition, the purity of the Perfection of Wisdom, etc., up to the purity of ignorance, then the purity of action. With regard to Bodhisattvas, it is shown that the purity of generosity leads to the purity of ethics, etc., and that all paths are pure. Thus, it should be known that from the aspect of abandoning the afflictive obscurations, and in addition to that, one aspect of the obscuration of knowledge for the Solitary Realizers, the obscurations of the Bodhisattva path, etc., being diminished or abandoned, the sutra just mentioned shows the three purities of Hearers, Solitary Realizers, and Bodhisattvas. The Buddhas, on the other hand, are the ultimate purity, the complete purity in which both obscurations and their predispositions are purified. That is also shown by what is said from the purity of the Perfection of Wisdom, which is the smallest of the smallest pure aspects among the nine paths of cultivation, then form is completely pure, etc., up to the non-manifestation of the greatest of the greatest. Non-elaborate wisdom does not rely on the measurer, knowledge, and the measured, the two truths, as different entities of object and subject, but rather, by becoming equality itself, it becomes the antidote to the three realms, the special understanding of the Great Vehicle. The sutra that shows this is, by "Purity is without seeking," etc., it indicates equality, and by "Purity is not born in the desire realm, form realm, or formless realm," etc., it shows that it becomes the antidote that destroys what is included in the three realms and is to be abandoned. In this regard, in order to dispel disputes, this Perfection of Wisdom should not be used as medicine, should not be grasped, and by viewing what is to be abandoned and the antidote as "unattainable," etc., and by viewing what is produced by effort and what is to be attained, etc., in this way, disputes are eliminated. For example, viewing the destruction of a great object to be abandoned by a small antidote as unreasonable, in the ultimate sense, what is to be abandoned and the antidote, as well as greatness and smallness, are not established, but in the conventional sense, just as washing clothes stained with dirt is reasonable, and many other reasons should also be understood from the context. These exist in the extensive sutra, so it is said that way in the treatises, but it is not said in this condensed collection, so it should be understood from the meaning.

There are nine ways of expressing the basis. The term "basis" refers to all phenomena of aggregates, elements, and sources, which serve as the foundation for severing imputations. Understanding that all of these are merely empty of a self of a person is the realization of the Hearers. Understanding emptiness of two selves as free from elaboration is the realization of the Great Vehicle. Among these, in order to directly show the basis-consciousness that abides in the lineage of the Great Vehicle's realization, and to indirectly understand the inferior realization, generally speaking, the nine ways of expressing are: the basis-consciousness that does not abide in existence due to wisdom; the basis-consciousness that does not abide in peace due to compassion; the basis-consciousness that is distant due to non-skillful means; the basis-consciousness that is near due to skillful means; the basis-consciousness of unfavorable factors; and the basis-consciousness of favorable factors. These six are generally shown as the distinguishing characteristics of the Great and Small Vehicles. The application of the basis-consciousness, its equality, that is, the way of holding, and the actual explanation of the path of the result, the path of seeing, and the three grounds, thus these nine determine the basis-consciousness. These nine are extensively explained in the sutras. The manner of combining each of their internal distinctions should be thoroughly understood by combining them with the treatises. Here, seven basis-consciousnesses are shown. By showing the unfavorable factors, one knows distance, and by showing the favorable factors, one implicitly knows nearness. Among these, first, the basis-consciousness that does not abide in existence or peace is: like the verse "The Hero's Dance," etc., it shows that one does not abide in existence by transcending the three realms, and one does not abide in peace with compassion below that. The basis-consciousness of unfavorable and favorable factors is: like the verse "These beings, names," etc., beings' clinging to things as real, falling into the net of their own conceptual appearances, is what is to be abandoned. Having understood this, the wisdom that, unbound by the elaboration of grasper and grasped, wanders in the sky of the nature of reality like a bird, is the favorable factor. Then, why does this favorable factor basis-consciousness not abide in existence or peace through the gate of realization? The five aggregates, which are of the nature of reality, are this shore, becoming the path traversed and seen by ordinary beings, the boundary of samsara. The non-reality of the five aggregates ceasing is the other shore, the boundary of nirvana. However, the nature of reality does not abide by its own nature in either of these two extremes, it is the great equality of union.
