Thus, it was spoken by the guide. Second, the extensive explanation is divided into two: what should be entered into, which is superior, and what should be abandoned, which is inferior. First, "If enlightenment," etc., one verse: If a bodhisattva who is a beginner practices by clinging to the five desirable qualities, but sincerely takes refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and thinks, "I shall attain the state of Buddhahood," and does not separate from the intention of omniscience, then that wise person should be known to abide in the perfection of morality. Second, "If for eons," etc., one verse: If for hundreds of thousands of eons one practices the ten virtuous paths of action, but generates desire for the level of a Hearer Arhat or a Solitary Realizer, then at that time the morality of the Great Vehicle is harmed, and the correct morality is lost. For a practitioner of the Great Vehicle to generate a mind for the level of Hearers and Solitary Realizers is a fault even heavier than a bodhisattva committing the four root downfalls. Even if one commits the four root downfalls, if one does not abandon the supreme mind of enlightenment, one will not lose the qualification for the great path of enlightenment. However, generating an inferior mind will, until that mind is abandoned, cause one to lose the qualification to go to the path and fruit of the Great Vehicle. Third, there are two: what should be adopted and what should be abandoned. First, "Guarding morality," etc., one verse: Guarding morality and completely dedicating it to supreme enlightenment, not becoming arrogant by holding onto the sign of that morality, not praising oneself through that morality, and completely abandoning the thought of "I" and the thought of sentient beings, such a bodhisattva is said to abide in the perfection of morality. Second, there are two: the actual object to be abandoned and the teaching of its antidote. First, "If enlightenment," etc., one verse: If bodhisattvas who practice the Great Vehicle, the path of the Victorious Ones, think, "These sentient beings have morality, and these sentient beings have broken morality," and various thoughts arise with manifest clinging, then by that thought alone, they are said to have extremely broken morality. Possessing manifest clinging and

Through that way, the defilement of despising others, etc., will cause the Mahayana precepts to decline, and that person does not have completely pure precepts. Because those are damaged by the concept of focusing on objects. Second, "To whom 'I' etc." is one verse: For whom there is no concept of 'I' and no concept of sentient beings, only realizing the selflessness of the person. Like this, for those who are free from attachment, which arises from the concept of manifestly clinging to 'I', where would there be non-discipline, i.e., broken precepts? Because all non-virtues are rooted in the concept of clinging to 'I', if that does not exist, then the occurrence of sinful things is impossible, because there is no cause. For whom, through knowing that all phenomena are without inherent existence, there is no arrogance of holding onto the two types of broken precepts, discipline and non-discipline, this is said to be the discipline of the Bodhisattva's precepts. If one possesses this way, then one is separated from all misconduct, possesses the precepts that please the noble ones, and that also becomes completely pure because there is no object of focus. Fifth, regarding generosity: After knowing the faults and virtues of giving and not giving, one should rejoice in generosity, and how to give are two things. First, the way a Bodhisattva gives, the faults of ordinary people not giving like that, after knowing like this, there are three ways one should be devoted to generosity. First, "Sentient beings pure" etc. are two verses: Those who purify the minds of sentient beings, as just explained, because of being free from concepts and desire, those who possess pure precepts do not look at anything, whether pleasant or unpleasant, as a sign. They also give their head, hands, and feet to others, and at that time, they do not have a shrinking mind that cannot endure. In that way, they give away everything they possess, and they are never attached to anything they possess. Like this, knowing that all phenomena are without inherent existence, selfless, and merely illusions arising from conditions, they even give away their own flesh, and they do not develop a shrinking mind. Then, what need is there to mention giving away external objects? If he is stingy, then that exists in all ways.
