Having generated roots of virtue from that (wisdom) tree, Bodhisattvas who are embraced by virtuous friends ask: How should one strive in the practice of Prajñāpāramitā? In response, it is said: One should not strive with even a particle of clinging or abiding in the dharmas encompassed by the skandhas and dhātus. Not clinging, not abiding, and not striving in the skandhas and so forth, that is the true striving of the Bodhisattvas. Second, the qualities are threefold: the cause of practice—the quality of reverence, the result arising from practice—the quality of the fruit, and the quality of the nature of temporary practice. First, "Whoever hears this dharma," etc., one verse, meaning: If someone hears from this Prajñāpāramitā scripture that all these dharmas, although empty in essence, do not cease in appearance, like a snake and an illusion, and after hearing this, they are without hesitation and have unwavering faith in its meaning, and diligently strive to learn it, then that sentient being should be recognized as having entered the Mahāyāna a long time ago, and they have previously made offerings to countless billions of Buddhas and have accomplished extraordinary practices through means such as mindfulness. Know that without relying on such past causes, it is impossible to develop faith and understanding after hearing the profound meaning of Prajñāpāramitā. Second, the quality of not being obstructed by obstacles, and the quality of obtaining the three kāyas, these two. First, "The solitary path," etc., two verses, meaning: If someone enters a solitary path, remote from people, and travels many yojanas, when they see the place where the city's herdsmen dwell, that is, the delightful and complete forest at the boundary between the solitary place and the city, those who have traveled a long road will think: These are signs of being near villages and cities. They will find relief from the fear caused by tigers and other dangers in solitary places, and they will no longer worry about the threat of thieves. Similarly, when wanting to attain supreme Bodhi and fully seeking its means, those who are fortunate enough to hear the mother of the Buddhas—this supreme path of Prajñāpāramitā—they will be free from the suffering of saṃsāra...
