Emptiness! Countless ripples of the mind, do not enumerate them, like undisturbed muddy water, let it settle and clarify! Having seized the wandering monkey of the desiring mind, with the rope of mindfulness, place it in the enclosure of equanimity! Like a clear lamp without scattering, if one's own mind abides in its natural state, it is extremely joyful! Even if surrounded by hundreds of enemies wielding weapons, fighting, the kingdom, even if passed down through generations, can be relinquished. If known beforehand, there is also a way to escape. Even if it happens, it is only one in a hundred. This untamed mind-enemy is more difficult to deal with than that, fighting, even if victorious, skilled warriors are very rare. Passed down through generations, being controlled by it, one's own fortune is lost. Knowing this fault, yet this abides in the heart, suffering from beginningless time until the end. Wife, stinginess, with thorough water, place in suffering. If one wishes to abandon this, it is autonomy. If one wishes to abandon this untamed mind, exerting influence on the mind, a hundred thousand harms arise. In short, all harms in the world arise from the untamed mind, without autonomy. If one's own mind is tamed, then the qualities of higher realms and definite goodness, all become autonomous. Therefore, by one's own mind gaining autonomy, this matter should be diligently practiced. It is not a friend of beautiful women, nor is it comparable to a kingdom. It is not youth without illness, wealth, and fame. With the following of learning and contemplation, those who desire practice, yogis, those who abide in solitary places, if the mind is not tamed, the fruit of practice is lost. Therefore, examine your own mind. If it becomes suffering, then it is tormented, the mind does not abide. If it becomes happiness, then it is attached, and floats in that state. No matter what, calm abiding is not achieved, therefore, cut off the conceptual thoughts of accepting and rejecting suffering and happiness. Even if suffering is exhausted, thinking this is happiness, yet when one suffering is exhausted, another arises. Even if one hope is fulfilled, one's own mind thinks this is happiness, yet even if the hope is fulfilled, another hope arises. The various thoughts of hope and doubt, until all knowable things are not realized, are endless. Therefore, do not wait for any time, right now, protect your own mind. Knowing that this cunning mind, with all external objects, has no time to let it abide, therefore, put down all hopes and doubts together. Whatever happens, directly let your own mind abide. Like a burning fire, violently shaking, water ripples, steepness of mountains, waterfall stones, etc., nature

Where can the abiding nature be seen? The wavering mind also Is just like this. The changing thoughts are endless and boundless. The patterns of incense smoke connect endlessly, with no end. Do not wait for the moment, but abandon all present thoughts, Without anticipation or retrospection, just let them go. What is the use of looking at the bird tracks in the sky? Where can one go by tracing the wolf's footprints on the ground? What is the need to engage in dream-like trading? Hold onto your own ground, abiding in one-pointedness. If you let the army of thoughts move, It will spread throughout the sky, joyful and endless. If you suddenly let go, it will be infinitely peaceful in an instant. When subduing the illusion of illusion, do not be afraid! Samsara, with its three sufferings, is unbearable. Since life is like lightning and cannot be trusted, Putting aside the deceptions of this life and the eight worldly concerns, Even if one practices diligently, learnedly, and for many years, the accomplishment will be small. When aiming at the target of one-pointed focus, Like setting up a spear, abandon everything that arises without a trace. This net of continuous thoughts, If you rely on it, it will grow one after another, like ripples in water. Not even one can be cut off, and it grows endlessly and boundlessly. From beginningless time until now, it has been drifting in this state. If you let go, one will dissolve, two will dissolve, like bubbles. If you abide in your nature, the power of awareness of thoughts will diminish. If you cannot grasp your own nature, the power of thoughts will increase. If thoughts are not tamed, how can calm abiding be accomplished? Thoughts are like cunning thieves, Like evil people, if you avoid them, they will harm you even more. If you approach them, they have no power, and with habitual deception, Look at this liar who controls the three realms! Compared to crossing the great ocean to obtain jewels, Splitting rocky mountains and digging hundreds of yojanas underground, And finding treasures of various precious things, Calm abiding, which tames one's own mind, is more important. Even those who have practiced in solitude for many years, It is rare to see even the mere accomplishment of calm abiding, By all means, settle your own mind within, Relying on the key points of the method of settling, Just like threading a needle, If you do not rely on extra effort, it will not succeed. Nature is like an angry venomous snake, all thoughts are fire. The rain that can kill thoughts is meditation. The wisdom that arises from clear meditation, Can find the wish-fulfilling jewel-like lamp, the supreme wish-fulfilling treasure. In the deep well full of filth and poison, Is the nest of the many-headed black snake.
