Not considering faults and merits, What difference is there from animals? For trivial matters like temporary business, Examine yourself and ask others. But for the matters of taking and leaving in life, Isn't it foolish not to examine and ask? Although people without faults are rare, If, after recognizing faults as faults, you abandon them, all faults will be eliminated, therefore, you will become like the moon free from clouds. Although it is difficult to possess all virtues, if you delight in virtue itself, and gradually practice the virtues to be adopted, you will one day become greatly virtuous. Not knowing faults as faults, you will constantly indulge in faults. Likewise, if you nurture the stream of faults, even the virtues you previously had will diminish. The more accustomed you become to virtue, the more you will be liberated from faults. If you remain in a state of indifference without examination, even if a hundred years pass, there will be no increase in goodness. When the virtues in your own mind stream increase, you will become equal to those who are unequal, and you will surpass those who are equal, rising higher and higher. If the portion of faults in your own mind stream increases, it is like the flowing water of a steep cliff, going lower and lower, and even if you try to straighten it with your hand, you cannot reverse it. Therefore, if you desire benefit for yourself, abandon the portion of faults in your own mind stream, and diligently strive to increase and expand virtue. Since these depend on knowing what to take and leave, be extremely pleased with the holy ones and the teachings of the holy ones, and always strive to practice them. Who is a trustworthy person? It is the one who has become a place of trust. An untrustworthy person has no excellent qualities, impossible like a painting on water. If there is a trustworthy person, even without others, it is better than a hundred virtues. If this root of human conduct is absent, you will cut off the hope of other virtues. Also, from the path of virtue itself, not turning back, trusting in oneself, a person who never deceives, is called trustworthy, the best of people. A body that is reliable is like a lion, unassailable and greatly overpowering. A speech that is reliable is like a sage, all people are happy to trust. A mind that is reliable is like a jewel, fulfilling the desires of oneself and others. A body that is unreliable is despised like a castrated leader of a herd. A speech that is unreliable is hated and reviled by others like chaff. A mind that is unreliable goes aimlessly like something carried by the wind. Like the lungs that distinguish without error, if you reliably abide on the path of goodness, you will not

Alas, O holy ones! May the wish-fulfilling excellent tree take root. What is being ashamed? It is being extremely disgusted and weary of the actions of inferior and evil deeds. This is the beautiful garment of both worldly and Dharma. Like being defiled by countless impure things in front of people, not feeling ashamed to walk naked, this shamelessness is the greatest shame. Impure things can be cleansed by pure bathing, and nakedness can be adorned with beautiful things. A shameless person cannot be purified even by bathing, and will not become beautiful even if adorned with beautiful things. Not thinking of repaying kindness, and not completely cutting off hatred, a person who has nothing, cares about nothing, and has no scruples, such a person is also shameless. Even if bad words are spoken, they are not afraid, they do not listen to beneficial words, and they are completely desperate for the good state, such a person is also shameless. Inner secrets are revealed in the mouth, causing those who have expectations to feel disappointed, and even if they are worthy of respect, they do not take it to heart, such a person is also shameless. Hearing good deeds and good words, they are not happy, and they do not rely on holy people, such a person is also shameless. Associating with inferior, sinful, and lowly people, playing at will in the group of fools, throwing worldly and Dharma actions behind their backs, such a person is also shameless. During the day, indulging in alcohol and gambling, etc., which cause fame to decline, and at night, only indulging in sexual love, such a person is also shameless. For meaningless trivial matters, and all kinds of sins, even if they participate in them, they do not know shame, such a person is also shameless. Seeing holy deeds and scriptures, they are not happy, and they do not think about the meaning in them, such a person is also shameless. In short, for actions that should be taken or abandoned, those who act blindly without examination, and those who act arbitrarily on the path of worldly and Dharma, are foolish and shameless people. A person with a sense of shame can avoid the confusion of inverted distractions. What is the use of any teachings for a shameless person? Therefore, a person with a sense of shame, for the good deeds of worldly and Dharma, does not deviate from this path, and always makes vigilance the core. What is vigilance? Like a person sitting on the edge of a cliff, they always attach great importance to and are very careful in guarding their own behavior. Children are deceived by trivial amusements, and adults are
