The Great Praise: Ode to the Land of Snows For the sake of taming beings in the land of snows, The supreme prince, venerable Manjushri, Appearing beautifully as the king of Tibet, I prostrate and praise at the feet of Trisong Detsen. 1 Like the pair of sun and moon, the two Khenpo and Lopon, Indian pandits, Tibetan translators, The emanation bodies who bring benefit and happiness to the land of snows, To you who gather the many, I prostrate and praise. 2 The seats of knowledge, sutras, tantras, treatises, Correctly translated, revised, and established, Raising high the victory banner of teaching and practice, Great sovereign, to you I prostrate and praise. 3 Gathering the kingdoms of the four directions under your power, Monasteries and supports of body, speech, and mind, Establishing the two communities holding sutra and tantra in Tibet, To you who rule Tibet, I prostrate and praise. 4 Governing both dharma and politics with various means, With strict decrees and good traditions, establishing peace in the kingdom, Sovereign, like Brahma, a flower of the gods, Your fame spreading across the earth, I prostrate and praise. 5 Manifesting the accomplishment of the great supreme nectar, Perfecting the great skill of unwavering samadhi, Spreading treatises on valid cognition and other excellent teachings, King of Dharma, to you I prostrate and praise. 6 The secret mantra, even rarer than the Buddhas, All the doctrines and their instructions, Making this land of Bhota like Oddiyana, To you who make it so, I prostrate and praise. 7 Expanding the profound secret dharma cultivated by the dakinis of space, The three inner tantras, difficult for anyone to find, The treasure of jewels fully taken by the accomplished masters, To you who establish it in this land, I prostrate and praise. 8 In this cool, white garden land, The teachings of the Victorious Ones and the community that upholds them, Whatever has arisen, O protector, is due to your kindness, Incomparable kindness, to you I prostrate and praise. 9 Until the teachings of the Buddha remain, With various emanations, spreading the teachings of the Victorious Ones, And bringing benefit and happiness to the land of snows, Unmatched aspiration, to you I prostrate and praise. 10 We, the people dwelling in the midst of the snowy mountains, Even the mere sound of the precious dharma of the Victorious Ones, Hearing it in our ears is due to your kindness, Who with intelligence would not respect you? 11 Therefore,

With unwavering faith, I praise and prostrate to you, Protector. With your past great aspiration and vows, please embrace us and grant your blessings. 12. May the Buddhas of the ten directions empower and prophesy, and with the powerful aspiration of Avalokiteśvara, according to the wishes of King Manjushri's incarnation, may the Buddha's teachings endure forever. 13. May all limitless beings be completely embraced by compassion, and may I engage in altruistic activities as long as space exists. You are the crown ornament of all courageous Bodhisattvas, may I become like you, Protector. 14. It is said that this verse is the word of the great Dharma King Trisong Detsen himself. Through the power of praise and supplication, may diseases, poverty, and strife be pacified in the places where we and others reside, and may Dharma and auspiciousness increase. 15. Through the aspirations of the Buddhas and their sons, and through our pure faith and virtuous deeds, may the aspiration and teachings of the Dharma King Trisong Detsen spread far and wide, and may all be auspicious. 16. These sixteen verses were composed by Mipham Jamyang Gyatso on the twenty-seventh day of the eighth month of the Fire Horse year.
