If there is no (compassion), even if emptiness is realized, there is a possibility of falling into samsara. If the characteristics of samsara and nirvana are not distinguished, compassion will not arise. Because compassion must arise by distinguishing the characteristics of samsara. If emptiness is realized, compassion must not arise, but if emptiness is realized, the mind will naturally like benefiting others, this is the law. Because the noble bodhisattvas realized the truth of the law, they are not attached to their own body and possessions, but only pursue benefiting others, and perfect the six perfections. This is produced by the power of realizing the suchness of the first ground and so on. Even if one realizes it oneself, compassion will naturally arise for those who have not realized it in this way. This is effortlessly produced by the power of realizing the equality of the union of the two truths. How can one abandon benefiting others? Furthermore, if the validity established merely by conceptual thought is taken as a standard, it cannot be established in the eyes of worldly people. Because worldly people believe that the nature of a pot, which is established in name, exists. Therefore, for those who proclaim the tenets of the Prasangika school and for all beings in the world, there is no difference in the way things appear, such as the deceptive appearance of a pot arising from dependent origination. On this basis, the existence or non-existence, and the right or wrong in name can be established by means of valid cognition. If all things such as good and bad karma and its results, happiness and suffering, good and bad, what to accept and reject, dharma and non-dharma, etc. can be established, then it will be possible to establish them in common. Therefore, there is no need to examine whether or not it is established in the ultimate sense, but the validity of name should be established from the perspective of the deceptive appearance of how things appear under the influence of dependent origination. This is the view of Chandrakirti. Just as roasting meat with fire, etc., without examination, names are established in accordance with how they are commonly known in the world. This is what is said in the auto-commentary of the "Entering the Middle Way" and in the "Clear Words Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way". If one examines from the ultimate point of view, then whether or not the validity of name is established, everything is merely imputed by cognition, and in reality it is not established in that way. Because in the ultimate sense, there is no nature of whether or not validity is established. In the "Auto-commentary", the teaching of the "Inquiry of Near Attendant" is quoted to establish this point. If one can distinguish that this is necessarily established, then the darkness of doubt will be dispelled, and one will be able to easily understand the way in which the two truths are established by means of valid cognition. Without relying on the examination of the ultimate, the valid cognition that examines name is merely imputed by cognition, and the thing itself has no nature.

Printing cannot be completed. Mangalam! Furthermore, if the establishment of other-emptiness is based on the way words are used, where sound, meaning, and object appear as distinct, then within the scope of what can be expressed by names, there is no possibility of a single phenomenon that is empty of itself. If that does not exist, then things like rabbit horns would exist. What is to be refuted is empty of other phenomena, but if all phenomena are not empty of their own essence, then it contradicts the sutras. There is no need for reasoning such as one and many, because all phenomena are empty of phenomena other than themselves; it is merely the exclusion of others. In summary, if realists and Madhyamikas debate whether this commonly appearing vase is truly established, they will state: "The vase, as the subject, is not truly existent, because it is not perceived by the valid cognition of ultimate analysis," and so on. This commonly appearing vase that exists is not negated. Rather, it is established that it does not exist ultimately or is not truly existent. Therefore, the vase is not negated, but is posited as the subject, and it must be established that it does not exist ultimately or that it lacks true establishment. Therefore, the vase is not negated, but true establishment is negated. Through this method, conventions are established without fault or harm. However, after contemplating these words, if one thinks that every phenomenon that exists conventionally is an object of refutation by ultimate analysis, and that only true establishment is to be refuted, and thus one negates the object of refutation indiscriminately, thinking that one has realized emptiness, then there is a danger of going astray. Although such conventions must be used when debating with realists, if one asks why it does not exist ultimately and why it lacks true establishment, there is no other reason than that the commonly appearing vase is not perceived or found by reasoning such as one and many. If the vase that is established in common appearance is not negated by ultimate analysis, then there is absolutely no way to establish that it does not exist ultimately or that it is not true, because the commonly appearing vase itself would become existent ultimately and truly established. Therefore, saying that true establishment is the object of refutation is nothing other than saying that the commonly appearing vase is not established as being able to withstand ultimate analysis. Therefore, true establishment does not exist conventionally. Since the vase exists conventionally, these two are not one, so it must be said that the object of refutation is true establishment. However, the vase exists conventionally, which means that it is established in common appearance. And the lack of true establishment means that it is not established as being able to withstand ultimate analysis.
