To establish something as valid or invalid cognition depends on whether the state and manner of grasping of terms are consistent or not. Therefore, it should be established based on whether or not it is an unerring awareness that establishes an object as valid. All terms are merely imputed by conceptual thought, and terms themselves have no essence. Please consider how to establish whether the object-possessor is valid cognition and whether the object is established by valid cognition. Therefore, terms are established by virtue of what appears to the unimpaired sense faculty. If it goes beyond that, it is impossible to establish the validity of terms. Haha. If terms are merely imputed by conceptual thought without a basis for imputation, then just like a rabbit's horn, everything is nonexistent, so how can there be any valid establishment? If there is an appearance of dependent arising as the basis for imputation, then that is the essence of nominal phenomena, not merely imputed. Furthermore, if terms are established and effective merely by being imputed by conceptual thought, then poison would become medicine, virtue would become sin, fire would become water, and so on, everything would become everything, so there would be no valid or invalid cognition. If it doesn't change like that, then merely establishing by conceptual thought cannot make terms effective, and it must be admitted that the object appearing to the unimpaired sense faculty has an essence. Furthermore, saying that "conventional phenomena are merely imputed by conceptual thought and things themselves have no essence," and saying that "a pot is merely established by conceptual thought and has no essence of its own," and "a pot is not empty by a pot," that is, conventional phenomena such as pots are not empty by their own essence, but are empty by other truly existent things, these two are actually contradictory. The very essence of pots and so on not being empty from their own side is the essence of terms. Since that is the case, why is it necessary to establish terms merely by imputing them by conceptual thought when they exist? If conventional truth is merely imputed by conceptual thought and things have no essence of their own, then why are pots and so on not empty by their own essence? In short, phenomena such as pots should be empty of self-essence, because you assert that they are merely imputed by conceptual thought and have no essence of their own. Thus it is said. Also, it should be the case that pots and so on are not merely imputed by conceptual thought and do not lack their own essence, because a pot is not empty by a pot, so its own essence is not empty. Thus it refutes. Furthermore, whatever exists is pervaded by impermanence, that is, whatever nominal phenomenon has an essence of its own characteristic, an essence that can perform a function, and can exist independently, is called a substance and a thing. Therefore, in general, among the two essences of existence and non-existence, things exist, and conversely, non-things are...
