Without that, there would be no consciousness to commonly know all internal and external realms. Without yogic direct perception, there would be no wisdom to realize the meaning beyond the ordinary realms. Therefore, these three are established. By knowing all of these, one directly experiences one's own realm, and the end of all experience reaches self-awareness. For the meaning of direct experience, there is no need for other proofs, because the non-erroneous mind itself clearly experiences and cuts off doubt. Therefore, this self-awareness is the ultimate destination of all valid cognitions. Furthermore, inference is ultimately rooted in direct perception, and the end of direct perception is determined by self-awareness, which comes down to the experience of a non-erroneous mind, and there is no need to seek other proofs, just like experiencing happiness and so on. Secondly, with regard to inference, with what kind of mind does one infer? It is with the mind that has conceptual thought, not with anything else. What is conceptual thought? It is when the general aspect of the meaning of any object appears in the mind, and it is grasped by mixing it with the name of that object, for example, conceptually thinking or mentally verbalizing "pillar" and "vase," this is called the mind with conceptual thought. Even young children who do not know how to use language, and animals such as horses, have a general aspect of the meaning of food and drink appearing in their minds, although it is not mixed with names. However, through the conceptual thought of the general meaning that can be mixed, they engage in accepting and rejecting objects. For example, even if they have not actually seen water, when they hear the sound of water flowing, animals suffering from thirst will have an image of water appear in their minds, and they will make sounds expressing their desire for it, and they will chase after distant sources of water, and in this way they understand the nature of water. This mind with conceptual thought grasps the general aspect of things in a way that mixes objects, times, and aspects, and it is through making various kinds of assertions and negations about that general aspect that all terms are established. Otherwise, it would not be possible to point out inference and the place of learning. Because for direct perception, only the parts of one's own realm in one's own time, and the individual characteristics of moments, appear separately and without mixing with each other, and this cannot be mixed with names, so it can only be

Nothing is added. This conceptualization not only clings to the objects seen now by applying names and categories, etc., but is merely what is called conventional conceptualization or conceptualization based on terms. Moreover, it conceptualizes the past in the manner of recollection, conceptualizes the future in the manner of anticipation, and conceptualizes the basis of inference by holding signs, and from that sign, it also measures hidden things that have not become manifest through conceptualizations of things to be inferred that have signs, etc. Therefore, if there is no inference with conceptualization, just as a newborn baby does not know to fear fire, etc., it will not do anything with regard to acceptance and rejection, entering and leaving. This mind with conceptualization also has cases of not being mistaken, such as conceiving a rope as a rope and conceiving a mirage as a mirage, and cases of being mistaken, such as conceiving a rope as a snake and conceiving a mirage as water. Relying on the non-deceptive conceptualization, it is possible to distinguish all the terms of the knowable of the three times without error. How does this mind with conceptualization infer hidden phenomena? That which, when relied upon, can understand another phenomenon is called a sign. Moreover, that sign itself is established as a property of the object to be proven, which is the first aspect, called 'property of the object'. If that sign is not established on any disputed object, then examining pervasiveness is meaningless, so first it should be examined whether a sign like 'made' exists on a basis like a pot. After the sign is established, the relationship between that sign and the phenomenon to be proven is examined. Therefore, if the object to be proven necessarily follows that sign, that is the second aspect, called 'subsequent occurrence'. For example, if something is 'made', then it is 'impermanent', because the pervasiveness is ascertained by valid cognition. Therefore, impermanence necessarily follows the sign of 'made'. Furthermore, if the phenomenon to be proven is reversed or does not exist, then that sign also reverses, that is, it cannot exist. For example, if it is not 'impermanent', then 'made' will not occur either, which is the third aspect, called 'reversal'. These last two aspects refer to ascertaining the pervasiveness of subsequent occurrence and reversal through valid cognition. When these are illustrated with examples, it exists in all similar things and in all dissimilar things.
