It is like the complete assembly of earth and causes producing sprouts. In short, whatever action produces whatever result is called the "reason of action," and all things that become results, such as sprouts, are necessarily dependent on their respective causes, which is called the "reason of dependence." Thus, the action of whatever cause producing whatever result, and the dependence of that result on that cause, are abiding because they can be mutually cause and effect. For example, virtuous actions produce happy results, non-virtuous actions produce suffering, or rice seeds produce rice sprouts, and so on. Conversely, not producing results, such as virtue producing suffering, non-virtue producing happiness, or barley seeds producing rice sprouts, is not abiding. Because through these first two reasons, one can engage in acceptance and rejection, and advance and retreat, from the perspective of understanding the abiding and non-abiding of all phenomena. Therefore, all sciences, such as the arts, and all philosophical systems, both worldly and transcendental, are rooted in analyzing through these two methods. Therefore, the more skilled one is in understanding abiding and non-abiding, the more pure and excellent the principles of science and philosophy become. The reason of the nature of phenomena is: in conventional terms, phenomena abide in their respective natures, such as earth being solid, water being moist, and the sky being unobstructed, and so on. That is, even for a single phenomenon like a pot, there are many establishments to be proven, such as being impermanent, being substantial, and so on; and there are also many phenomena established from the perspective of excluding or negating, such as not being knowledge, not being permanent, and so on. But in general, for a self-characterized, substantially existent pot that has become an object of direct perception, the various establishments of different negations, such as being made and impermanent, which are nominally established by excluding others, are combined by the mind with conceptualization. Therefore, it can be summarized into two ways: substantial and nominal. From this, self-character and general character, general and particular, contradiction and relation, and name and meaning, and so on, rely on establishing various nominal establishments that agree in meaning, so that one will not be confused about all meanings. Thus, the established cause and effect and nature, these three are

These are the three types of reasoning used in debate. Ultimately, when examined with the reasoning of the Vajra Splinter, it is impossible to pinpoint which cause produces which effect. When examined with the reasoning of existence, non-existence, production, and cessation, effects do not arise in dependence on causes. When examined with the reasoning of one, many, and separateness, none of the characteristics such as solidity are established. Therefore, without cause, without result, and with emptiness of inherent existence, abiding in the nature of the three doors of liberation is the ultimate nature of reality. The two, agent and object, are also included in the nature of phenomena in conventional reality, such as the heat of fire and the ability of fire to burn, and the dependence of fire on firewood is like the nature of reality. Therefore, all limits of reasoning end in the reasoning of the nature of reality, and there is no need to seek other reasons, just as no one can deny the nature of phenomena, such as the heat of fire. Thus, summarizing the meaning of the first three types of reasoning, the meaning of how the three, cause, effect, and inherent existence, of phenomena abide in conventional reality is the state of affairs or nature of reality in conventional reality, and the absence of inherent existence in the three, cause, effect, and inherent existence, is the ultimate state of affairs or nature of reality. In short, from the perspective of having to ascertain the meaning of the two truths, the first three types of reasoning are explained. The nature of phenomena abiding in such a way is called reasoning because it is appropriate and reasonable, or measuring in accordance with it is also called reasoning. Thus, measuring the meaning of the two truths to be measured accurately and without error is established by the power of phenomena, and therefore it is called the reasoning that establishes validity, because any establisher has a correct validity. So, through what means is validity established? Through the manifestation of the meaning of conventional truth as it appears, and the manifestation of the meaning of ultimate truth as it exists, for the manifested, it is direct perception, and for the hidden, from the manifestation of the unmistakable sign that can infer it, through the means of the other two types of inference. Among these, the conventional nature is manifested by direct perception, just as an unerring eye consciousness directly sees a blue lotus. The ultimate nature is directly perceived by the meditative equipoise of the noble ones.
