These, too, although they have no connection in meaning, are named in a mocking way with the opposite name of what one wants to express, so they are merely ways of naming derived from similar connections. Moreover, it is like calling a drink that quenches thirst "thirst." Such named names have four possibilities of explanation and application: the name "sea-born," although it can be applied to land-born flowers, cannot be explained; for flowers born in the sea, both explanation and application are possible; for plants and animals in the sea, etc., it can be explained but not applied, so it cannot be called that name; for stones and tree stumps on land, etc., since neither explanation nor application is possible, it should not be used. If one wants to express and calls a black dog "conch shell," although it is adopted and applied as a name, if explained, it becomes reversed, and for such a case, grammarians consider this to be "a sound that follows the reversed proof." Similarly, when happy, saying "haha," or saying "good, good," when sad, saying "alas, alas," or saying "ainai ainai," when surprised, saying "alalala alalala," etc., like this, the sounds of emphasis that repeat without contradicting the meaning are considered to be following sounds. And "karakara," "daradira," "charachola," etc., which cannot be determined in one direction, the application of repetitive sounds to mixed or unclear things, etc., there are many kinds of expressions. Thus, in the world, for any thing, whether it is a name known from the past or a new name that matches the meaning, there are many kinds of things that have become symbolic names, and one should learn from various dictionaries. The language itself that expresses meaning with names and words, its body or nature exists in any of the three forms of poetry, prose, and a mixture of poetry and prose. To be adorned with captivating special qualities is called verbal ornamentation, that is, to be perfectly combined according to the system of Vyākaraṇa, all poems have rhythm, and the pronunciation of any language is moderate, whether soft or rough, clearly expressing the meaning without error, and the expression is also natural, or combined with metaphors and images, or through excellence and speculation, etc., the special experience of emotional changes such as charm can be generated, such language is pleasing.

’Phrog pa (stealing, here refers to literary talent) is endowed with poetic flavor. In this way, with the perfection of language, no matter which of the three—explanation, debate, or writing—is done, one must abandon the unnecessary and only speak of the necessary. It should be rich in content without the fault of repetition, and concise without lacking completeness. Therefore, there should be no hindrance in expounding in a way that is appropriate whether it is detailed or concise. It should be determined through pure reasoning, so it is very clear. The wording should be precise, the expression clear, and the manner of expression skillful, making the meaning easy to understand. Through the purity of language and words, one should be skilled in the necessity and summary of the treatise itself, the meaning of words and connections, and the elimination of doubts. Even if a single word has multiple meanings, as well as the pauses in words, and the differences in sounds that can be understood in two ways, these should be well distinguished. Relying on what can be expressed, one should determine the meaning to be expressed without error. This is the correct understanding of each definite word. Fourth, the correct understanding of each person's courage is the same as the order of obtaining mastery over the three—Dharma, meaning, and etymology—shown above. By obtaining fearless courage in explaining, debating, and writing the meaning of the scriptures, one can then take care of fortunate beings and possess the power to subdue wrong views. That is, Bodhisattvas, for each word and meaning, even if they explain for countless eons, they will obtain inexhaustible courage. Here, the correct reasoning for the method of obtaining the supreme courage of immaculate wisdom that does not rely on others regarding the doctrinal meaning of the scriptures is explained. If all the meanings of the Dharma taught by the Buddhas are summarized, there is nothing that is not included in the two truths, the conventional truth and the ultimate truth. Therefore, one should properly generate definite knowledge through the two kinds of valid cognition (pramana) that measure these two. How should it be understood? Just as the sutras say, the four kinds of reasoning—the reasoning of function, the reasoning of dependence, the reasoning of nature, and the reasoning of proof—should be understood. In this way, all phenomena of samsara and nirvana arise and appear according to the law of interdependent origination. Not relying on causes and conditions is like a lotus in the sky, it cannot be a real object. Therefore, seeds, water, and warmth, and so on.
