Acting with the possession of a basis and so forth, to show the difference between transgressions and non-transgressions, and the means of recovering from transgressions, is the Vinaya Pitaka. In which Sutra Pitaka, because of the certain exposition of truths, bodhipakṣa dharmas, liberation, etc., it manifestly tends towards extinction, and also for each of the skandhas, elements, etc., various distinctions are made and repeatedly ascertained, and the meaning of the sutras is manifestly realized through the certainty of reason, and to overwhelm the opponent through debate, is the meaning of the Abhidhamma Pitaka. Thus, by focusing on those teachings of the scriptures through the three ways of hearing, thinking, and meditating, one gradually establishes habits on the path, understands the meaning, and attains liberation, and also gains correct knowledge of each dharma. How then does one seek the object of the sacred Dharma? One enters through the four ways of seeking the name which is the nature of name, word, and letter; and the meaning of the expressed skandhas, elements, etc.; and connecting name and meaning and establishing it as the nature of something like a vase; and establishing distinctions like the belly of a vase. Although one clarifies the terms from these, if one knows that these four are not established in meaning, then the four kinds of complete knowledge, such as not focusing on the name, will arise. If one shows the way to practice these with instructions, then like the scripture such as the *Ornament of Wisdom Light Sutra*, holding the mind to the general sound of the name of that scripture is the root mind. And analyzing the distinctions of the words, such as the number of chapters and verses, etc., that are the means of expression in that scripture, and discriminating the meanings taught by those words with the four reasons, and holding the result of such discrimination in a way that is certain without doubt, and summarizing all that is expressed and expressible into the meaning of the root name, and then contemplating, and wishing to obtain such a meaning of the scripture in one's own continuum, that is, entering through the six minds, and for those meanings, with the appearance of the general aspect of meaning, one should repeatedly and continuously seek or analyze with the discriminating consciousness. In this way, one should generate calm abiding between the access concentration and the actual state of the first dhyana. Then, when it becomes more advanced and reaches the stage of the actual special state, one should separately examine with non-conceptual wisdom. Then, the second dhyana.

Until the actual samadhi is attained, one should contemplate through mental engagement that is inseparable from both calm abiding and insight, and devoid of grasping at a subject and object. That is, holding the mind on the name of the Dharma is shamatha (calm abiding), distinguishing its meaning is vipashyana (insight), and holding both name and meaning together is the union of shamatha and vipashyana, which is the manner of the three paths. By relying on the attainment of the actual abiding of samadhi, accomplishing clairvoyance, and thereby making offerings to immeasurable Buddhas, listening to the Dharma, etc., the path is greatly increased. Thus, a Bodhisattva who has attained special calm abiding and insight on the path of accumulation knows all dharmas to be merely appearances of one's own mind, and through familiarizing with this, since apprehending and grasping are not observed, the four paths of application are attained, and from that, one transforms from the path of seeing up to the path of no more learning. In short, by focusing on the meaning of things as they are and as many as they are, through images associated with aspiration and conceptual thought, and through images associated with suchness and non-conceptual thought, that is, by entering through the way in which those various aspects appear to the mind, the transformation of the basis, which is the accomplishment of all that is needed, will be attained. Third, the knowledge of accurately understanding each definitive word is the way in which one accurately understands how various beings, such as gods, nagas, yakshas, humans, etc., communicate meaning through their respective languages. Specifically, in this Jambudvipa, due to the differences in languages of India, Tibet, China, Shambhala (香巴拉), etc., there are different arrangements of the root letters, such as more or less. In the Sanskrit language of India, the sixteen vowels such as "a," plus the thirty-four consonants from "ka" to "ksha," totaling fifty letters of "aksha," are considered the root or basic letters for composing all names and words. In Tibet, the thirty Tibetan letters from "ka" to "a," plus the four vowels such as "gi gu" representing the vowel "a li," are the root letters. Among the Tibetan letters, there are five prefixes among the ten suffixes, as well as head letters such as "sa" and "ra," subjoined letters such as "ya ta" and "ra ta," and the four vowel signs. By combining these in appropriate ways, all names and words arise. Generally, from the combination of many syllables, nouns such as "kawa" arise, which only indicate the essence of things, and from the combination of many nouns, phrases such as "kawa rinpoche" arise, which indicate the essence of things.
