For example, through means such as attaining the state of meditative absorption, even though momentary impermanence is established, due to the similarity of appearances such as color, shape, and tactile sensations, one mistakenly perceives the similar, continuously existing moments as one, ultimately clinging to permanence. The various forms of the bodies and senses of each sentient being are newly produced and born from karma and afflictions, existing within their respective classes, and ultimately ceasing when their lifespan ends. Even during the present moment of existence, from initially residing in the womb, to being born, from childhood to aging, weakening, and finally reaching the end of death, the stages of age gradually change, and different states such as happiness and suffering arise sequentially. In this way, connected to the continuum of mind, grasped by feeling and accompanied by it, moment by moment, they arise connected as cause and effect. In accordance with the pull of previous karma, the following of pure and impure minds also becomes consistent, and increase and decrease, superiority and inferiority, happiness and suffering, and the states of different objects and actions, because they focus on different states, one should know that moments have many differences. All minds and mental factors of the three realms, encompassed by consciousness, whether they arise in a similar continuum, like the mind of meditative absorption, or dissimilar, like the various distracted minds of the desire realm, various different states arise and change rapidly, immediately transforming completely from various different four conditions such as cause and objective condition. One should know that at the time of birth of the various different beings encompassed by the three realms, and from birth until the end of their respective lifespans, the final series of moments continuously arise and cease in sequence. Therefore, all conditioned phenomena change sequentially by the power of the aggregation of causes and conditions, in the manner of a sprout growing from a seed. Therefore, even objects that exist for an eon should be known to undergo birth and death from year, month, day, and hour to moment, like the rise and fall of a balance scale, proceeding without interruption, and merely as this impermanence. If one recognizes this, one will not be attached to all conditioned realms, and will be inclined towards liberation, becoming a basis for entering the meaning of emptiness, and so forth, possessing supreme necessity.

And possessing, as it is said in the sutras, just as among all footprints, the elephant's footprint is the most supreme, among all concepts, the concept of impermanence is the most supreme. Thus it is said. Secondly, those that belong to formations, or to conditioned dharmas, also have two types, those with outflows and those without outflows. The outflowless ones, because they are not encompassed by the cause, essence, and result of suffering, are therefore not suffering. However, all those with outflows abide in the very nature of suffering. Why is it called suffering? Because it does not bring peace to what is undesirable to body and mind. Those with outflows are also the nature of suffering, or are related and mixed with it, and are the gateway for its arising. For example, the suffering of the lower realms, and even in the higher realms, birth, old age, sickness, and death, separation from loved ones, the arrival of the unwanted, all the various degrees of suffering that arise from seeking desires but not finding them, from the moment they arise, even animals know that they are undesirable and suffering, this is the suffering of suffering. Among the other two sufferings, in order to recognize that this is the suffering of essence, the two names of suffering are combined as the basis and attribute. The sutra says, what is the suffering of suffering? That which is suffering at birth, suffering while dwelling, and happy when changing. The categories of individual sufferings, represented by heat and cold etc. in hell, are immeasurable. If one asks, in the Abhidharmasamuccaya, isn't it said that separation from loved ones etc. are categorized as the suffering of change? Yes, but that is considering the meaning of when it will separate. Here, it is spoken from the perspective of experiencing the suffering of separation etc. The suffering of change, no matter in which realm of the world, such as the higher realms, no matter how the form of the place, body, enjoyment, and happiness with outflows appear, similarly, it cannot be permanent and will inevitably change in the end, and will not go beyond the scope of the four extremes. At the time of change, the previous happiness itself becomes the cause of mental pain, like the grief of losing a son, if there is no son, there will be no grief of losing a son. Regarding this, the sutra says: The suffering of change is happy at birth, dwelling
