Like being certain of fire from smoke. Like comprehending what is to be proven from the means of understanding, reasoning. It is said that like obtaining nirvana from the means of attainment, the path. The co-emergent cause is that which mutually becomes the fruit of each other, relying on each other like a quiver. That is the four elements of the same aggregate, as well as the mind and what follows the mind (mental factors), and characteristics and bases, and so on. What is meant by 'what follows the mind'? It is mental factors, as well as the discipline of undefiled concentration, and so on, and the characteristics of the mind and what follows it are also like that. Why is that? Because the mind and what follows it are the same without any temporal precedence, produce the same result, and are the same in the nature of virtue, etc., therefore it is called 'what follows the mind.' This co-emergent cause, in general, there are two ways of establishing causes: the cause and effect of what is produced and what produces, and the way of establishing cause and effect by way of what does not arise if it is not there. The first is like seeds and water for sprouts. The second is like establishing short based on long, establishing this shore based on the other shore, and so on. In this case, it is like the cause and effect of establishment, not that one actually produces the other, and although they arise simultaneously from one cause, they are established as causes only because one does not arise without the other. The cause of equal share is established from the aspect of the cause and effect being of the same kind, such as the arising of virtue from a virtuous mind, and the arising of barley from barley, and so on. That is also the cause that arises before the effect, mainly established in what belongs to one's own kind and place. The corresponding cause is only in the domain of mind and mental factors, and is a distinction of the co-emergent cause. That is also the same by way of five similarities: both mind and mental factors are the same in relying on the same basis, master, condition, and sense faculty; the object of focus is the same in focusing on the same object; the time is the same without precedence; the aspect is the same in the way of apprehending blue, etc.; the essence is the same in each individual thing. This is for the sake of understanding that mind and mental factors arise mutually in a corresponding manner.

The way of establishing is as mentioned above. The cause of pervasiveness, so-called pervasiveness is affliction, is just a separate explanation of the cause of the arising of afflicted dharmas. For example, the arising of affliction from affliction also belongs to the difference of equal cause. That is, the cause of the arising of afflictions in one's own realm is what occurred before the fruit. The cause of fruition is a separate explanation from the aspect of generating desirable and undesirable fruits of samsara, that is, only contaminated virtue and non-virtue, thus there are six causes. The first of the five fruits is the fruit of fruition, which is the part of the fruit that serves as the basis for generating the experience of happiness and suffering in contaminated samsara. Its nature is non-obscuring and non-specified, and its own cause is specified as either virtue or non-virtue. It arises from the cause of fruition, is included in the continuum of sentient beings, or belongs to the dharmas related to it. The dominant fruit refers to the extent to which it becomes the fruit of the agent cause. The fruit of similar cause is the fruit of both equal cause and pervasive cause, because this fruit is similar to its own cause, it is called that way. The fruit of the agent is the fruit of both simultaneous cause and associated cause. For example, when a person makes a vase, the maker and the object of action both exist separately, and the name is given based on the similarity to this. All of these are conditioned phenomena. The fruit of separation is the cessation that separates what is to be abandoned by the power of individual examination by intelligence and wisdom. Although its nature is unconditioned, it is established as a fruit because, although its nature is not produced by a cause, this arises from the abandonment of the obstacle to it, so it arises from a cause of non-arising if it does not exist. Although it is said that no cause is established for other unconditioned phenomena except for selective cessation, it seems that it is only similar in the terminology of non-arising if it does not exist for non-selective cessation where there will be no sprouts after burning the seeds. Moreover, all present conditioned phenomena can be said to be the self-fruit of only conditioned phenomena. There are also cases where the fruit that arises from the power of a certain cause is called the fruit of the agent, and the fruit and the cause are the same.
