Extremely subtle. The marks and examples of the Buddha are pure, clear, and complete, and are extremely superior, so that nothing else can compare to even a fraction of them. Even the merits of a single hair of the Buddha are immeasurable, but the sutras say that in order to slightly show the extent of the great merits, all the merits of all ordinary beings, hearers, and solitary realizers in the world are added together and multiplied by ten to accomplish a single hair of the Buddha. Similarly, multiplying the merits of generating all the hairs by a hundred times will accomplish one of the minor marks. In this way, multiplying the merits of accomplishing all eighty minor marks by a hundred will accomplish each of the thirty-two major marks, except for the white hair between the eyebrows and the crown of the head. Multiplying the merits of accomplishing all thirty-two major marks by a thousand will accomplish the white hair between the eyebrows. Multiplying the merits of accomplishing the white hair between the eyebrows by a hundred thousand will accomplish the crown of the head. Multiplying the merits of accomplishing the crown of the head by a hundred trillion will accomplish the Dharma conch throat of the Buddha. The sixty branches of the Buddha's speech are: beings can generate roots of virtue upon hearing it, therefore it is soft; it makes the seen Dharma feel comfortable, therefore it is gentle, these two are the qualities of the result. It can show the meaning of what should be taken and what should be abandoned, therefore it is pleasing, this is the quality of what is to be explained. The words that can be explained are excellent, therefore it is agreeable, these four can also be said to be the qualities of the voice itself. Because it is obtained from the fruit of transcendence, therefore the intention is pure because it is virtuous; because the seeds of affliction have been abandoned, therefore the intention is without affliction, it is immaculate, these two are from the perspective of intention to distinguish, it can also be understood that the language itself is without fault. Because the words and letters are clear, therefore it is clear, this is from the perspective of combination. It can eliminate wrong views, therefore it is pleasant and delightful; it can show the means of renunciation, therefore it is worthy of being heard; it cannot be refuted by others, it can eliminate false speech, therefore it is indestructible; it can generate joy in the listener's mind, therefore it is wonderful; it can show the antidote to attachment and other afflictions, therefore it is taming, these five are the qualities of ability, for the qualities of the voice, it can also be understood according to the situation, above and below must be understood. It is not used for fatigue, therefore it is not rough; it can show the method of recovering from falling, therefore it is not difficult to practice, it is not rude, these two are related to discipline.

Being extremely gentle by establishing in the three trainings, being pleasing to the ear by dispelling obstacles and dullness, satisfying the bodies and minds of those to be tamed with pliancy and insight—these two, counted separately as four, are what combine with samadhi. Rejoicing the heart by dispelling doubt, generating happiness by dispelling wrong conceptions and uncertainty—these two combine with wisdom, which are the eight qualities that combine with the three trainings. Making one free from regret and thus free from suffering, making wisdom perfect through hearing and thus all-knowing, and being able to discern by serving as the basis for perfect contemplative wisdom—these three are the qualities of pacification. Clearly showing the wisdom without comparison or example is the quality of not being miserly with the Dharma. Rejoicing by delighting in the increase of one's own attained qualities, being exceedingly delighted by delighting in the generation of unattained qualities, making one all-knowing by showing the profound, and making one able to discern by showing the vast—these four are the qualities of taking care of sentient beings. Speaking with valid measure is being reasonable, showing in accordance with the vessel of those to be tamed is being connected to their continuum, and also being without the fault of repetition where there is no difference in meaning, that is, not repeating—these three are the qualities combined with wisdom. Making opponents afraid is the voice of a lion, pervading the retinue widely is the voice of an elephant, the tone being deep is the sound of a dragon, being worthy of being held and not to be transgressed is the voice of a dragon king, being pleasing and captivating is the voice of a gandharva, being constant and unimpeded in conveying meaning and refuting and thus able to subdue is the voice of a kalaviṅka, being heard far away is the voice of Brahma, being a sign of auspiciousness for all accomplishments is the auspicious voice of a śaṅśaṅṭe'u, the words being dignified is the voice of a deva king, and overcoming the hosts of māras is like the sound of a great drum of the gods. These are the ten examples shown of greatness. Being without afflictions, one is not arrogant even when praised, and not dejected even when criticized; not changing from what has been said, or entering into the nature of grammar and following all sounds; with memory unimpaired, all sounds are not confused; pervading and abiding in all activities for the sake of those to be tamed at the time and occasion, there is no lack of what needs to be accomplished;

Unwavering because of being free from craving for gain and respect, etc., not timid because of being free from the fear of shyness in the retinue, extremely joyful because of no weariness in teaching the Dharma, encompassing all meanings because of being skilled in all fields of knowledge, also taking care of those without roots of virtue, and understanding the meaning of beings with a compassionate heart, without doubt. Constantly speaking or speaking without interruption, thus continuous. The meaning of what is said is rich and makes one understand, thus abundant, which is also called majesty. In one sound, there are also the languages of gods, etc., and various forms of sound, thus making all sounds complete. Each one manifests the meaning that one wants to know, thus satisfying the senses. Not moving because of harming as vowed, thus not despised. Not teaching at the wrong time, but applying at the right time, thus not changing from benefiting others. Not speaking hastily because of being too fast and not pronouncing the sounds clearly, etc., thus not hurried. Near and far are not different, heard equally, thus resounding throughout the entire retinue. Being able to fully demonstrate the meaning by using all things as examples, thus possessing all kinds of excellence. These nineteen are the qualities that benefit those to be tamed. On top of that, adding the destruction of the three poisons of attachment, hatred, and ignorance, and the four maras, sixty-four are also mentioned. The emanation body of the Buddha is, for as long as existence lasts, simultaneously doing various benefits and happiness for beings in all directions and times. If we divide it, then like the teacher, the Buddha Shakyamuni, showing the twelve deeds, is the great enlightenment or the supreme emanation body. Emanating as a lute of the Gandharvas in order to subdue the Gandharva Rabga, and so on, due to the power of taming, emanating into the form of various kinds of people, is the craftsman emanation body, that is, due to the power of the emanation mind, like a form made by a craftsman, it only appears as such to the taming beings. Some think that the Buddha statues, etc., also belong to the category of craftsman emanation, but they belong to various emanation bodies. Due to the power of taming sentient beings, showing birth in various places of birth such as Indra and the deer Ruru, is the emanation body of showing birth, and thus there are three.
